On Itsthinking’s thread The Cadance Paradox, I came to a realisation: Those of us whom like Cadance like her more for her personality than her actual character.
 
First, some basic definitions:
 
Personality is who a character is, in terms of how they act and behave towards others. Kindness, friendliness, understanding, or aloofness are some of the words we can use to describe a character’s personality.
 
Character on the other hand, is what a character does. What they do, what they want, and how they react is how we define their character. In a narrative sense, the best way to build and define a character is to present them with a challenge or a conflict to overcome, so that they can learn and grow as a character.
 
A static character is a character whom doesn’t change to any major degree with the evolving narrative. A dynamic character is the opposite, in that they evolve and change with the narrative. The mane six are dynamic characters, in that they have changed with the narrative to varying degrees.
 
Although others have asked me to define personalities as well, I have decided not to, as I feel it is outside the bounds of the core points that I’m trying to make. In summary, yes personalities can be static and dynamic too, since they are tied in character as much as character is tied into personality.
 
Where am I going with this? As much as I like Cadance, I have to admit that she’s a static character, in that she’s the same character that we met in A Canterlot Wedding. I think that she has a good personality, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that she’s a static character.
 
I hear that there is a book that explains her origins, but all that does is give her character more depth. What do I mean by this? Depth comes from character development, which can happen during, before, or after when the narrative is set. I consider a character to be static if they don’t majorly change when the narrative is set. Yes, Cadance got some further development, thus more depth, but that happened before the narrative, thus I still consider her static.
 
The thing is, now that I think about it, Celestia is exactly the same in that regard. She too is a pretty static character, even though she is endowed with a good personality like Cadance, and even with that character history episode that a lot of us want, she’ll still be a static character, though one with a bit more depth than before.
 
I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing to be a static character with a lot of depth, but people have to realise that a setting can get stale if the characters don’t grow in some way.
 
What do we all think?

We’ve already had griffons, a minotaur, a sea (river) serpent, and Cerberus himself. What else should make an appearance in the show?

I made this back in September after drawing so much fanart about it. I also don’t know how to post links.

You know those things. Everybody has those things. I have a crapload of those things.
 
One I find particularly odd is duke nukem forever. I personally rate it somewhere between Singularity (which I liked) and the first modern warfare (which…was alright I guess) but everyone else seems to think it’s worse than turds on toast.  
Although I suppose it helps that I didn’t pay full price for it and didn’t have particularly high expectations.

This is probably a tired idea, but which one-shot ponies do you want to return to the show?
 
Personally, I want more Braeburn. There is so much I want to learn about him and Appleloosa. There’s so much about his energy that makes me want to know more about him.

They are evil yet fascinating.
 
The nitty gritty

The show has lots of really great dresses, outfits, and costumes for our characters. I’m curious to know what your favorite outfit or costume for our ponies is? (You can include comics.)

RD may not be my favorite pony but I thought her Gala costume was absolutely splendid and matches her so well it’s ridiculous.

because there is no proof, they were never even near eachother in the actual show, also amethyst star is confirmed to be dinkys sister but you guys come up with excuses such as babysitter or adopted sister just because you want your baseless headcanon to stay alive

I did a search on here for “Twilight, alicorn”, and it literally only came back with 2 images, neither of which were rule 34. I have my settings set so that it doesn’t filter anything. I don’t understand why I can’t find any of this stuff. I’ve tried other sites to and barely found anything. Am I doing something wrong, or is alicorn Twilight literally so hated that people don’t even want to draw porn of her?!?

Can someone please fix my brain? I am very confizzled to what the jerbity whap whoozle happened in the ending. Booker is Comstock, Elizabeth is Anna, and Finkerton is a pie but I feel like I got pistol whipped or something.

Now that I have offended those with weak constitutions with that title, lets get down to business:
 
Word of God is what I want talk about. For those whom don’t know what I mean by this, I’ll give you the first paragraph of this article, as it will give you the gist of what it means:
 
A statement regarding some ambiguous or undefined aspect of a work, the Word of God comes from someone considered to be the ultimate authority, such as the creator, director, or producer. Such edicts can even go against events as were broadcast, due to someone making a mistake. Can lead to Creative Differences.
 
If you’ve followed anything I’ve said either here or twitter, you will note that I’m not really a big fan of this trope. I come from the SF Debris school of thinking, meaning that for the most part, the narrative itself should answer most, if not all, the questions it asks.
 
I don’t mind word of god for minor things, like background details, and anything else that doesn’t have a major impact on the narrative.
 
Why do I bring this up? Because I’m tired of people criticising things in the show by starting with the following sentence: “Well, Lauren had only ever intended for…” for which my response usually is “So what? It wasn’t stated or strongly implied within the narrative, therefore it isn’t canon”
 
Now that I’ve said what I think of the trope, what are everyone elses opinions on the word of god?

Am I the only one here who thinks the crown worn by King Sombra was actually a “demon” artifact, uch like the Alicorn Amulet? Lie some sort of “Tyrant” set?
 
If it was such artifact. Then what effect do you think it has?

Usually on an image that people really doesn’t really care about or is popularly disliked I ask a random question to give as an optional topic to talk about. They were usually silly and a required a brief answer. Lately those type of pictures has become more scarce. I decided to create a thread here for when I come up with fun questions. I ask you If you would like just one thread or a new thread for each question? Should I stick with posting them on uninteresting images? Before I post my first question here I only request that while some of the questions will be dark in nature is that your answers aren’t too graphic especially with included images.

I was just thinking, with all of the stuff we try to find in these episodes, are we missing the mark? I sometimes think the best answer is the simplest one, and with FiM it can often be deduced quickly enough.
