The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Single simple-chambered stomach and a lot of finicky carefully balanced hindgut in horses vs. a complicated cud-chewing regurgitating and fermenting apparatus happening at the front end in ruminants. No more or less evolved, just differing pressures on the respective ancestors resulting in different outcomes.

They both eat hay and oats, and get to laugh at rabbits and make Van Halen jokes at their expense.

horses / ponies are often referred to derogatorily as “hay burners” in reference to their expense and upkeep. They can easily eat quite alot more than cows actually. Equids in general I think their digestive systems are less efficient (less evolved?) that other ungulates, therefore they have to eat more to maintain that huge muscular frame. But the end results are that they’re crazy strong and fast. so it’s like comparing an F-16 to a C-130.
