I don’t think the orders were entirely Rarity’s fault. Sassy pretty much took charge and tried to make it her Boutique. She didn’t want the business to fail because most of her All did…probably because she was fired or she overworked the owners. So she changed the name of the Dress and started immediately taking orders for it without giving Rarity a choice (Which should have got her fired)
 
She was ENTIRELY too nice and should have stopped it, But Sassy shouldn’t have been taking order without orders from her employer either. That was a dual fault there.

haha, I knew this would be your type of episode.

She needed putting in her place. Rarity owns the business, if she says the dress’ name is Reign in Stain then that’s what it is. You get to tell her “that name focus groups terribly and ponies react better to ‘The Princess Dress,’” but when she makes a decision it’s done.
 
You also don’t steal the owner’s spotlight. That was very nearly a firing offense.
 
The three hundred dress orders was entirely Rarity’s fault, though. If you don’t want to make that many – and you had a guess it was coming with the first hundred – you put a hard limit on the number of orders Sassy is allowed to take for the dress. It’s fashion, limited runs are standard practice.

As much as I’ve bitched about Season 5 on this site, I really genuinely loved this episode and it’s up there with my favorites in the series <3

She is definitely a metaphor for corporate mentality. By nature specialization will eventually cause people to become bored. That causes things to go under pretty quickly. Corporations are more into the now than comprehending that long term is actually more beneficial.  
That is probably why all the prior boutiques failed. they could not adapt when customers became completely bored of the same dress. That is what happens in real life too.
 
I gotta give it to mlp that its clear the corporate mentality cannot take hold so easily. It just causes trouble.

But…she wasn’t “bad”. She was simply more concerned about “business” part of “fashion business”. She wanted what was the best of the shop, and she aknowledged that her way of doing things wasn’t necesserly the best.

That makes no fucking sense, those are their negative character traits, everyone has them, this pony one is that her mind is too much into business, but that doesn’t mean she is a bad pony.
