Fair enough. You put it very well.
@SuperDEF
You’re a Pony? Pics or it didn’t happened.

Nobody can stop anyone from making edits to works, that much is certain.
It comes down to the copy/trademark rights of the artist commissioner; there are artists and commissioners who don’t want edits made, and that’s fine, it’s their property so they should have control over what happens to it and who uses it. But as it was stated nobody truly has control over it, the only way you can prevent edits is to not share a work publicly.
With that said, while they have no control over people making edits, they still have the rights to the original image and any derivative work where most or all of the original work is present, so they can at least ask that those edits not get posted publicly. On places like derpibooru and other art sites artists can request edits, traces and anything involving their original works to be removed at any point (it says so in the rules). There are going to be some places (like paheal) where the artist won’t have nearly as much control, and getting an edit removed can be difficult or impossible. The rights that an artist gets for a work is usually not an official right, especially for stuff posted online, for the majority it’s just a case of being a recognised artist and/or being the first to upload said piece. On sites like deviantart and furaffinity the copyright they claim you have only exists within their domain, and it means nothing outside of that(but again, sites like derpibooru can take them as proof if they choose to). To get official rights you have to buy them from the copyright office(and even then that copyright may not be in effect worldwide), and only with that can you have legitimate reason to get identical or derivative works removed from sites that make it difficult, because they then have to by law, and face consequence if they don’t.
So if you want to have a hissy fit about people making edits to something you drew or commissioned, get used to it or don’t post it, and if you’re desperate enough, go buy official copyrights for it.
Edited
You’re not really getting what he’s saying.
Editing doesn’t change or alter the original pic. That one stays the same, unchanged. That’s what’s great about digital art: editing only does an alternate version of it.
I really don’t think you get it. It’s not “more bang for your buck.” I’m possessive over art I’ve commissioned because the characters belong to me. In fact the artists I frequently commission even state in their terms “DO NOT ALTER IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM.” You are having a very difficult time grasping that it’s not okay to just take something that belongs to someone else and change it.
What? It’s more free art for you. Getting more bang for your buck, as it were. It only gives and detracts from noone. I mean, did it do anything to the copy you had?
I mean, I guess I could understand though if someone did some obscene edit, or just drew a character you made getting killed or something awful. But that’s more about the message of it than the “don’t touch muh art!” aspect.
as someone who’s had their comissions edited WITHOUT permission. This statement really annoys me. If I pay for art of my character, I don’t want it to be edited. If I’ve uploaded it somewhere it’s so it can be enjoyed by others. Not so that it can be poorly edited by someone.
Pretty awesome philosophy. A welcome break from commissioners being overly possessive of something they didn’t even make, or other artists being possessive of concepts they don’t even own, heheh.
I did not do this, but I’m not opposed to people editing my stuff.
Art’s to be enjoyed, so let people enjoy
Hehe, so you didn’t do this? I didn’t think so, but some people thought so.
She might very well be the right age for nighttime pullups/training pants. Heavens’ knows when I was a little pony I wore those at night for far longer than I probably should have. Like, 7 or 8 years old isn’t unheard of, though >.<
Very cute filly.
