Pretty sure I wont bother printing this one but I thought it was pretty cute.
I tried Googling it and couldn’t find it, but I remember it specifically involved convincing your opponent it was a different card and, if you succeeded, it took on it’s effect and power but kept it’s own original super low cost.

Well, a quick browse through Gatherer shows that the closest matches are Checks and Balances and Common Courtesy, very literal permission effects.
I’m fairly certain it was MTG. They’ve had their fair share of cards like that.
(Granted they’re from what amounts to being a parody set, but they’re still official and legit cards)

That’s hilarious! I don’t know how to play magic very well and only own one of those walmart blue black decks but that effect sounds amazing.
Now that you mention it, I think there actually is a Magic: The Gathering card that works like this (or maybe Yu-Gi-Oh; I can’t remember), where the effect works if you can convince the other player that it’s a different card.
The second I get a changeling or Chrysalis I instantly use it to make a funny ship because everyone I know plays by saying “Twilight Sparkle is trapped in a blizzard with Magical Girl Derpy who is having an affair with…” etc etc
Why not have a card designed specifically for throwaway jokes.
