I have to admit, I got quite a chuckle out of these names.
 
Why can’t we let people enjoy a funny comic instead of rehashing tired arguments about issues from a year ago and filling the comments with drama?

but there is nothing positive about the reflection arc, character development should be made out of a characters existing flaws, not flaws that someone makes up on the spot out of plot convenience

But starting with comic #30 here was very different type of writing issues that the people on the site rationalize. It went from making good to medium work, to doing stories that sounded like they were crapped out of Hasbro’s ass.
 
Seems around the time the show got more self-aware in S5, the comics lost the same type of self-awareness that it had for a while.

that is so true. this story needed a lot of self awareness rather than playing it straight. make the circumstances silly because in reality here, they could easily kill the apples.
 
also why did they tie fluttershy down anyway? why not just unleash her on the apples? this is pointless. they do not need to become bats because they could destroy those stupid apples to begin wtih.
 
this is impossible to play straight. its jsut…… stupid to even try to.

Bull comic had Twilight not lift a hoof after Aj got smashed through a wall, not even an a “you okay” thing. And doing nothing when its clear the town can’t fight back at all is just inane. Worse is that AJ is advocating fraud.
 
Also quite a lot of people hated the Deer and Bull arcs. Those two and the EQG holiday special were regarded as pretty bleh even on EQD and Round Stable.

Can’t say I agree. Noticed outside of Derpibooru very few people share that feeling. Mostly because when the pages are scrutinized page by page without the full story of Reflections, it sounds dumber then it actually is. Makes it sound like Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight, when it actuality, all the actions were justified enough by the lack of info, necessary given the naturally doomed nature of the other world(two evil sisters means the world is fucked), and within the parameters we already know about Celestia.
 
Actual knowledge of the whole story disproves all the arguments I’ve come across, and the +‘s given to the character development between Celestia and Luna, and Twilight and her ahead-of-the-time character development, were way better then what little it took away. Not to mention seeing Celestia angry. What did it take away in the long run? Nothing.
 
And the Western and Dear one? Those introduced the problems and reasonable doubt in Twilight’s blindspots that were finally addressed directly in S5. She has made dumb decisions in the name of trying to please the princess, even she admitted it was no excuse in Amending Fences. The won’t perfect, but the nice inverse of the Dear one was when the Minotaur tried to twist the truth and rules to acquire the forest, the forest ganked him.
 
Of course, I don’t expect anyone to give this post a second thought. The blind Reflections hate and IDW hate has practically marinated in the users on this site. Anyone who says differently feels like they will get lynched by saying anything positive about them.

They started failing past the middle of Reflections. Terrible arcs like the bull, deer, ponyville days, and that horrid EQG holiday special bring down the quality terribly. And first two fiendships were good, then they went downhill pretty fast.
 
And given how unoriginal this comic is and the lack of any parody or self-awareness, I’m expecting a pretty crappy conclusion. Also Hasbro’s “control” over IDW is mainly making sure that they arent doing any plotlines that would step into the what the show was doing. They couldnt do a Gilda comic for one because of that, since Griffonstone was being made.

“Rainbow Bite”? Okay, I snickered at that!

Hmm, so at IDW they still want me to avoid supporting their comics?

I actually liked the comics up to #29. Ironically, the comic quality has really dropped ever since Hasbro said they would take more direct control. (is that irony? or just common sense?)
 
At least the Sombra and Tirek one was good. And I like how they kept Chrysalis’ origins ambiguous.

I like the AJ and Rarity name puns, but yeesh, I’ve never really gotten into the comics, but stuff like this is making me pretty glad I didn’t.

No, we hate the predictable and unoriginal writing.
 
The initial plot is ripped wholesale from Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, and its all just an excuse to put bat ponies everywhere.
 
I’m getting a feeling IDW is barred from making any use of civillian bat ponies.
