@Background Pony #71EC: They freed her. That much is beyond certain even without the comics. Which pretty much portrays Nightmare Moon having been separate from Luna before the two started sharing a body.

It seems hard to tell too.
By now I don’t know if the Elements “Freed” Luna or gave Nightmare Moon a conscience.
She can easily shape shift from one to the other.
