Some consider the “Adventures of SMB3” & SMWorld spin-off shows as kinda like a continuation, or the season & third seasons of the “Super Show.” (The shows even have some subtle tie-ins. I remember that nerdy Brooklyn taxi cab driver from an ep’ of the “Super Show” cameoed in SMB3.) inWhen the Mario cartoons aired on the “Family Channel,” I recall all 3 shows occupied the same time slot, and when they got to the end of the “Super Show” episode reruns, they’d start showing the SMB3 & then the SMW series afterwords.
But he’s not known as “Bowser” in Japan, at all. Just “Koopa,” “King Koopa,” or “Great demon king Koopa.”
His minions also arn’t known as “koopas” in Japan.
I think sense they mistranslated his name as “King of the Koopa” in english, I think Nintendo of America back in the ‘80s mistakingly thought “koopa” was his “race,” and not his name, and therefore called his turtle, and turtle-like minions “koopas” instead. Don’t know why they renamed him “Bowser,” but some early merch’ apparently still called him “Koopa.” (Like the old Mario DiC cartoons.)
It’s kinda like the “Robotnik” & “Eggman” localization name confusion.
@Beau Skunky
Is it not just a last-name first-name thingy? The japs are always using last names to show respect or something. I don’t get it at all, but that’s what I thought the canon was. That his name is Bowser Koopa, and her name is Peach Toadstool.
Or perhaps it’s just been my headcanon for so many decades now that I assumed it was canon.
(Funny how both characters are no longer called those names. Well, technically Bowser is still “Koopa” in Japan.)

“Oh, A SECOND long time!”
“Well, it felt like A SECOND.”
Then what happened?
Good thing they found a Magic Balloon!
