I headcanonned the fuck out of Slice of Life’s backstory on that, where Pinkie’s family is actually wealthy and she basically kept the Cakes in business, and refinanced and remodeled Sugarcube Corner when they were going to otherwise go out of business. Part of her terms was that she got to live in the cupcake. Its also when all of the fourth-wall breaking shortcut doors got installed.
