Ah, but then it wouldn’t have been his fault so Cadance couldn’t get morally indignant at him for it!

That would have been better, IMO, because that would absolve spike of stupidity and show that it was inevitable. By not having him take a reasonable position, it just comes off as lazy writing.

Forcing a plot to happen by having things occur that are contrary to common sense is LAZY WRITING

Having the entire narrative hinge on those things is sheer lack of intelligence.

I just wanna say: if Spike turned away, the force of the sneeze would have knocked him backwards into the statue anyway, so that is a moot point.

That wasnt a particularly entertaining episode, kinda boring but i agree with the sentiment that we shouldnt be all “fuck this writer forever”.Hell, maybe it’s a kinda unpopular opinion but even 2011-2012 punching ball Merriwether Williams made a good (IMO) episode :Bats

I also agree that it’s a “wait and see” situation but if we had to judge a writer by his/her track record(Neal Duleau wrote previously for Johnny Test apparently,we are supposed to snob MA Larson for writing for The Annoying Orange

As for Spike, well i think it wasnt an episode that was too damaging for his character but this situation where Spike fuck everything up was done and done.Good thing also when the people helped him rebuild his staue and that he apologized and take consequences for his action

TV Tropes calls it the Anthropic Principle: basically, certain things just have to happen in a story, or else there wouldn’t be a conflict, and therefore there’d be no story.

Also, to people saying his fire should’ve teleported stuff to Celestia.

His sneezes have burned things since SEASON 1! When he burned that book in Owl’s Well that Ends Well.

Yeah everything made sense from his perspective the character writing was fine.
As for the just turning the other way thing. I’m sure there is an example in almost every episode where the character just had to do something really simple to avoid a problem.
Him not turning his head is more like just a general thing that happens in cartoons for stuff to happen.
Like half the stuff Pinkie did in the Griffonstone episode, and it was all fine.

People were complaining about Spike’s intellect everywhere I went and I really didn’t see the big issue. He was better than he’s been in other spike episodes

Here he really was trying and, superficially, all of his ideas were reasonable and were working in so far as he could see them.

“Gonna sneeze fire. What should I do? I know! I’ll look at the only breakable, important item in the room!” And at the end of the episode he did it again. Spike was written to be incredibly dull this episode.
Background Pony #7EEA
Why didn’t he just send it all to Celestia’s bedroom anyway?

Better question, how come he was somehow physically incapable of just LOOKING THE OTHER WAY????

Oh right because this writer is shit.

Maybe it was the magic of double-sided tape.

I don’t think they actually used anything adhesive. Least, I didn’t see any.
