I’d rather have cheesy and “cliche” (because emotion eaters coexisting peacefully with other creatures is so overdone, right?) yet heartwarming and in-line with the theme and target audience of the show than tasteless grimdark without any added depth.

I hope the show staff have enough sense not to do the same.

I liked the beginning part like where they came from and the imagery was great but overall I felt the comic just wasn’t that good.
 
Also Sombra gets a sad backstory when in the show he was just evil but Chrysalis gets just a wholly evil backstory when she could have a sad backstory in the show it’s like they flipped the characters around in the comics.

To hell with folklore. I watch the show because it’s light-hearted, cute, and puts that warm fuzzy feeling in my chest. The show is called Friendship is Magic, for christ’s sake.  
And yes, I am mad that the comics took a grimdark diarrhea dump on my favorite characters with staggering amounts of potential from my favorite TV show. Thank you for that observation.

You guys are mad, both comics were good :P backstory especially, only bad side of it is just how short it is. Read some folklore then you will get it why its good because changelings from start where based on folklore and backstory wasn’t even strange how half of shit from folklore can be ;p

We sympathize with her because she has herself and a nation to feed. They feed on love. Ponies are really loving. There is potential for peaceful coexistence. It’s not that goddamn complicated.

Also I didn’t read that comic and the latest one with her was terrible so I don’t consider those part of Chrysalis’s character so don’t bother trying to use them to make a point because I will ignore it.

I can sympathize with her because everything she does she does for her changelings she makes that quite clear and even though I can’t prove this we don’t know if she tried diplomacy long ago and was considered nothing but a monster by others and was denied help to which she know feels the only way to keep her children alive is by conquering places and taking their love forcefully Equestria was different back then as we have seen it’s definitely a possibility but I digress.
 
The point is she does these things you consider monstrous to keep her subjects alive.

Not really. She’s still trying to take places over to steal love. That’s what she did to places in her origins comic and the first comic with her had her taking love from that wannabe carebear village.

How can you sympathize with her? In her only appearance in the actual show she enjoyed rubbing her victory in the faces of others, and enjoyed making others suffer. She didn’t do anything sympathetic. And in her first comic story arc she captured little girls, tortured one of those things in front of the girls and basically said she’d get rid of them after taking out the mane 6. She has never been sympathetic. She always has been a complete monster.

You misunderstand. It’s a waste of her character because she’s the leader of a race that feeds on love in a show about technicolor ponies learning about friendship.  
Look at the comics. The love feeding aspect of the changelings has been made so irrelevant to the point that it’s nothing but a weapon. You could replace them with absolutely any other creature with almost any other offensive magical capability and it wouldn’t effect the story whatsoever.  
Waste of character.

And character can have some depth and be very entertaining while still being a complete monster. Look at Joker, Aku, or Him.
