As for Soarindash, they know each other and get along well, they both have pretty much the same goals in life, she’s saved his life twice… Not to mention I don’t think Dash would mind being the smart one for a change. :)

You are right about one thing: I doubt there’s any possibility of a cartoon that has to sell merchandise ever having an openly non-straight character so long as organized religion is around to threaten a boycott.

I really doubt they’d announce EQG Dash to be a lesbian or even a bisexual, but if they do, god damn it, I’ll be super sad, man.

There’s a big gap between “pushy” and “abusive”. And Dragonshy seems to have been written before the show staff decided that Dash and Fluttershy had been friends since they were fillies, with Dash showing much more concern for Fluttershy later on, so I don’t count it as establishing a precedent. I’ll grant that they might not prove compatible, but I’d expect that Dash would at the absolute least make a serious effort to do right by Flutters if they were an item.

The rainbow hair doesn’t make her a lesbian. It doesn’t make her straight, either. As far as I’m concerned either’s possible, I think she’s bi but that might just be me. (To tel the truth, I actually like Soarindash except for the fact that I can’t find any fics in which Soarin’ acts close to canon.)
 
All I’m saying is that the way Millennial Dan’s describing it makes her sound borderline abusive, and I don’t think that’s likely.

I don’t think so. She’s pushy with Fluttershy, like a bossy, impatient sister. That was especially evident in Dragonshy, and it also popped up in The Crystal Empire and Hurricane Fluttershy. Dash’s personality is often super choleric, with isn’t a good match with someone super phlegmatic.

I’m gonna have to disagree with you there. As far as I can tell, Dash tends to be more patient and understanding with Fluttershy than she would be with, well, pretty much anypony else.

I actually find Sunset and Twilight to be more of sisters in a sense. They were raised in similar settings, under the guidance of the same tutor, and such. How they interacted throughout the movies honestly felt like that of two sisters. {The kitchen scene was kind of like Twilight bonding with her big sister best friend forever!}

Honestly, “Confirmed” isn’t important. I like that M.A. Larson left the scene vague; those who are anti-shipping can point to the “Best Friends” thing and say they are platonic. Shippers like myself can point to the expressions and face-touching and say they are more than just friends. Really, I’m perfectly content with that; it would be nice to have my personal pairings (MinuSunsetSparkleShy, AppleRariCoco, RainbowPie) confirmed, but I know it would likely tick off fans of other ships, much as FlutterDash being confirmed would tick me off. (Admittedly in that particular instance I view FlutterDash as an inherently unhealthy “Make me a sammich” kind of relationship, but still.) The ambiguity is better for everyone, so any arguments are solely the fault of those who claim in the face of that ambiguity that their point of view is objectively correct.
 
As for Flash? I don’t like him, but I don’t hate him, and I really do feel his ‘romance’ with Twi is incredibly forced. I prefer lesbian pairings but I’m not heterophobic, (Shining Armour/Cadence is a favorite of mine) but I just really do believe that SunsetSparkle would make more sense given the personalities involved. I like to read the kitchen scene as, if not inherently romantic, the start of a friendship that would lead to romance later - but I won’t claim that’s what the creators had in mind.
 
TL;DR: Read it how you want, debate calmly, but don’t claim your views as objective truth. Also, Flash is mostly harmless.

There’s also, I believe, certain organizations with “strict” viewpoints, often but not always religious in nature, that wield enough influence in otherwise less “strict” places, that such a thing would be risky even if the show weren’t leaving North America.

Well for the show, I feel, and understand this is just my viewpoint, that due to some of the more…strict…markets they are in (middle east and communist countries) that Hasbro can not just outright say “Hey, these two are gay”. So Larson, who honestly loves the hell out of the brony community, decided in his writing to include some…innuendoes, while still saying best friends to satisfy said markets. Also the artists were definitely on board with the bedroom eyes thing.
 
As I said, this is how I saw it, through gay eyes (being a lesbian myself), but I feel everyone has the right to ship anyone they wish, I just hate seeing people be jerks over ships or anti ships.
 
I may make lyrabon comments, but that is just me celebrating my ship, I won’t ever attack someone who makes a ship of them with other characters, because honestly, no one is wrong when it comes to fanon.

I wish, I think it would have been pretty romantic, they just simply caught on when we would insist on being really close to each other and they would see the looks we gave each other when we thought they weren’t looking. The irony of the situation was that they were ok with me being gay, and here we were trying to hide it.

The best friends was a refrences to the fandom that sees them as friends,while the gestures they used was a refrence to the fandom that sees them in a relationship. Larson was sprinkling those parts of fandom along with the benches and spy stuff. Honestly too many peopel misinterpreted that scene just so they can be angry about it.

Octi and tavi are still up to fanon shipping, they haven’t shown any other pony interests for either, I like that it is open. As a lesbian myself, The lyra bon bon thing hits more as in the closet. My parents found out about me because of the same thing. Appearing to be too “close” to my “best friend”
