You’re familiar with the concept of telling a story in flashes right? :p You’re not seeing everything, the details are left to your imagination.
From what the author has on the description two pages ago, the lie he told was just the first ‘crack’ in their relationship. They both continued to have a long distance relationship, but eventually it just didn’t work out.
I think this is more shock rather than being angry. Its apparent enough by this page that they were still on good terms. And perhaps @Background Pony #84B8 is right, and that she had a glimmer of hope of reigniting that spark.
