He was so light and felt so delicate that you couldn’t help but grin like a little girl; an honest-to-God fairy was sitting in your hand. You giggled quitely with childish excitement and the little creature smiled back; he cocked his head slightly and made a quiet chirping sound. You couldn’t wait to show Twilight Sparkle: she was still mad at you because of the timberwolf incident, but when you showed up with a little fairy that had befriended you, she’d forgive you for sure.

I agree,Midna is best compaion…
Maybe you could a mythical creature based around Midna.
Say they came in to exsistance during the battle between celestia and nightmare moon.
You should play Phantom Hourglass; they got that one right, big time, with the “helper”.
I think Midna would actually be really interesting to see in your style. It would probably be a more complex design than what you’re used to doing, but y’now, just so the idea’s out there.
Remember, fairy: The only words you now know, are “Hey, listen!”, and “Watch out!”

Ech. I’m not a fan of the little fairy companions period. It took Zelda two games to get rid of them, and two games to get rid of Tingle, and finally all was well once more in Twilight Princess where Midna was cool.
Thinking Navi is that bad?
Have you forgotten about Tatl, all the things people find annoying about Navi(ture she only lets out a bell noise and not word) but half the time when you listen to her the info that can be helpful is replaced with “we need to help Tael”, “what is taking you so long to save Tael”, and so one.
Navi was always trying to help, not Tatl.
