Fun fact: About half the nitrogen in the average human (and probably more than half in your body if you are living in the “developed world”) was fixed not by natural means, but synthetically by the Haber-Bosch process, combining nitrogen and hydrogen under high pressure and temperature with a metal catalyst to produce ammonia. This is probably the single most important chemical process ever developed - it consumes about 1% of the entire world’s primary energy production, and without it, the world’s population would only be half as large.

Indeed, that’s the double-edged sword of having super-strong self-bonding. If you get enough Nitrogen weakly bonded to other elements, it releases massive energy when it gives up those bonds for its much stronger tripple-bonds.

It’s also, ironically, one of the most reactive elements when placed under the right conditions.
 
Nitrogen will sit around doing absolutely nothing to anything no matter how much you prod it, right up until the point where you break its triple bonds. THEN it’ll wreck you and everything you love.

Nitrogen is also the most common element in Earth’s atmosphere, composing around 70% of it (by volume). Though, since it is a fairly-nonreactive noble gas, and cannot be used by Humans during normal respiration, it is often relegated to the backgrou- shot
