MLP has always had a “genuine” fanbase; it just used to be more about the toys. The new fanbase for the G4 cartoon is certainly bigger and way more active on the internet, but that doesn’t mean the older-gen fans are therefore less valid.

I lost faith in the fandom long before I ever had faith in Hasbro. Which is to say, I’ve never had faith in Hasbro. They’re a company trying to maximize profits from their primary demographic, which isn’t us.

Given that it would be kind of hard to weave such a thing into slice of life episodes, I think that is pretty unlikely. They would likely have to do more action oriented episodes for them to easily fit the powers in (given the type of powers we have seen them have before anyway). As cool as that would be to see I just don’t see it happening.
 
I’m going to take a guess that this season is going to be more slice of life (like the previous 4) but focused on traveling to new places to solve issues instead of always being in Ponyville (and the immediate area) all the time. So we likely will be getting more adventure and world building but not action.

Yeah, like I said previously I could see where background ponies might fit into the concept.

You know it’s completely possible that the 100th episode both stars background characters and is also about this, sort of a Z-Team grand adventure.

pretty sure the 100 episode banner is about season 5 reaching the 100 episode and not be specifically about cutie marks, that sounds like the premiere plot.

It could make sense if they get the power early, and spend a portion of the season actually figuring out how to use it, instead of just being an instant win.

Hmm… that’s a good argument.

Another thing that makes it unlikely to be the 100th episode is, why would what is clearly a new power up come 9 episodes into the season, instead of at the end or beginning? It hasn’t happened in any of the previous 4 seasons why would it happen now.

Personally, I never really had any faith in Hasbro the toy company, but I still have quite a bit of faith in DHX and Hasbro Studios.

Maybe it will be a combination of cutie marks and cutie mark powers that make them like this, I could see where background ponies may fit into such an episode.

You people need to learn to stop taking EQD’s word as absolute truth. They’ve been wrong many times in the past, due to reporting things before all of the information is released.
 
The show staff themselves said that the 100th episode was going to be “bg pony focused”. Stop shitstorming over some misinformation that a fan site posted.
