Well, like I said. Maybe they can eat and enjoy human food, but don’t need to consume it for nutrients?
 
Or, maybe they need both human food and emotions to survive?
 
Or, maybe they just need fluids to supplement what they get from emotions?
 
All we know for sure is:  
  1. They need to eat emotions.  
  2. We never see them eating human food.  
  3. However, Sonata seemed to express pleasure at the thought of tacos.

You know that it has actually been awhile since I have watched Rainbow Rocks from beginning to end, maybe I should again.  
But I was always under the impression that they eat regular food for nourishment, but emotions like anger for magic power?
