If the show was a video game, this would’ve been the bad end. I love how Spike and Discord are staying around to watch out for her, despite clearly being saddened by her turn toward megalomania

EXACTLY. Though I like to think that over the years she’ll learn to overcome that. She’s already working on it. Better keep up those breathing exercises Cady taught you or this will happen, Sparklebutt!

Probably because Twilight can become extremely neurotic. Even thought she can take charge of a situation quickly, I doubt she could maintain a kingdom without a few panic attacks.
Princess Twilight was at the very top, watching everything, monitoring everything, controlling everything. She did so to protect her people even if they are unhappy. Even if she is unhappy. She made a promise to do so but was never taught how. And now, she sits on her godly throne with the only two people she had always trust by her side.
Spike and Discord though, they knew that this wasn’t meant to be. They knew this wasn’t her former teacher’s last wish. They knew that too clearly… but would she accept it? Would she give up all those sacrifices she had done for her teacher, just because her teacher might have said it was wrong? Who would? In her eyes, to challenge her is to challenge her teacher’s wish. Even though it wasn’t true.
As Twilight walked through her castle that had grown large beyond thought, she pondered of words and wisdom that her teacher had taught her. But alas, that did not waver her from her duty to protect her people. She was their ruler, their judge, their teacher, their parent and their protector. But she wasn’t their friend. She was to rule, judge, teach, protect and idolized. But not to love. What is a ruler without heart? What is a judge without conscience? What is a teacher without wisdom? What is a parent without ideals? What is a protector without a shield?
What is a friend without love?
She remembered all the lessons her teacher had taught her but forgotten all the lesson her friends had taught her. She is but an iron shell, hard to crack but inside… what little of her golden heart remains…
