I’m not sure that skin-tight metal armor would provide enough mobility (unless it is chain mail, which has its own costs and benefits). That is actually the beef I have with general female armor trends: trying to make armor sexy instead of practical.
A shield? Of course. Even better to have both a shield and full-body armor.
Better to have one than not having one during a battle.
Can’t trust a shield to do all the work for you. Might as well be asking why she is wearing any armor at all if the shield is going to be good enough on its own.
