I like Discovery Family.
DOES SOMEBODY LIKE DISCOVERY FAMILY
To be fair, they did have at least some degree of fanfare for the transition from Discovery Kids to The Hub.

I don’t see how anyone could have expected anything different. It’s not like they were going to snag Alyssa Milano to host bumpers celebrating the transition…

OP fails once again.
Me neither. I don’t understand why people are so afraid of this new change.
You mean it wasn’t advert dollars from that one obsessed lunatic company that makes Pillow Pets and Stuffies and Hideaway Pets and Stretchkins and Tummy Stuffers and Flashlight Friends???
IIRC, there was someone close to Hasbro that said that international broadcast licensing was how the former Hub Network made most of its money.
Oh, excuse me, Smiling Pony. It won’t happen again. :)
@TexasUberAlles I know, dude! What’s with all the drama and negative reaction videos? I, I don’t get it.
stop freaking out or baiting, plz
no u stop freaking out or baiting, plz
…Seriously, what are you even on about? Ain’t nobody trippin’ here but you all-a sudden; there have got to be flaming bags of metaphorical poop flying around in other threads, but I’m not seein’ the arglebargle here.
@Itsthinking
…Okay, broadcast is what you mean by “licensing”; that wasn’t clear before. Is regional broadcast licensing really that much greater a revenue stream than regional merchandise licensing, though? Eight or ten years down the line when new cartoon content is no longer being generated, sure, there won’t be any serious merchandising going on and most of the money the franchise makes will be coming from syndication, but right now there’s a huge and active toy/clothing/trinket market worldwide, not just in the U.S. and Europe.
I’m not discounting the bottom-line importance of broadcast licensing to Hasbro– it’s obviously a big deal to them and is the most realistically likely impetus behind breaking up the band with Hub– it just seems like they’re going for a much broader combined approach to it by pushing the franchise in every direction all at once.
FiM. They license it to kid/family channels worldwide.
Joshua, please, please be quiet.
Its, stop theorycrafting over vapours.
TUA, for the love of god, just… fuckit…
For everyone else; Hasbro pulled out of being a controlling member of the channel, which got renamed. For the time being, FiM is going to be spammed all over it. In the future, Hasbro has nothing stopping them from selling the show onto other channels.
For now, simmer your jimmers and stop freaking out or baiting, plz.
Listen, the Hub’s not going away, it’s just gonna be upgraded to Discovery Family.
International licensing for…
Merch is less important to the show than international licensing.
Keep in mind that these kids grew up with iPads and iPhones and that if they could watch the show with an app, they’d prefer it.
Maybe our friends will grow to like their new channel.
@Itsthinking
online only
I’ll file that under “crack theory”; this ain’t A:TLOK. Online-only doesn’t put it in front of Target Audience, whose parents are the ones buying all the merchandise the show exists to promote; that only puts it in front of the predominantly adult fans who mostly watch it on streams/yootoob/iTunes/Netflix, and who are clearly not the ones driving merch sales. Cartoon Network or Disney/DXD, on the other hand, have tens of millions more viewers than Hubscovery Family ever will, and highly successful overseas affiliates.
Still think S6 and potentially part of S5 will be online only.
Assuming we get a S6 (or beyond), unlikely. FiM’s never advertised for The Hub or its other shows, just for itself. If there is anything beyond S5, I doubt content would be affected.
