They are. But they gain flutter pony wings along with their ears in human form when powered up. This is clearly based on the toys.

As much as I enjoyed the movie I was disappointed that The Dazzlings didn’t get any closure. I know they are evil monsters that turn people against each other for a living, but I think they deserved some ending after they were turned harmless. Also it was kinda cruel to deprive them of their singing voices (because I liked Adagio and her girls songs the most :P), it’s almost like to take away a pony special talent.

It’s the animators fault for making them so adorable :D
