To me, the characters were fine. At least they didn’t have ears-going-through-a-cheese-grater voices. Clover, though, was the only one I didn’t particularly like. IMO.

Well, there was no G2 from a toy collector perspective. But many people identify much more strongly with watching the cartoons than with the toys. And in the context of the cartoons (and cartoon art) like here, Tales is like a second generation of cartoon - and damn the toys. But yes, calling it Tales does avoid confusion.

No I was refering to Tales as G2 alright. Sure there was technically no G2 cartoon. But since there was no G2 cartoon and because Tales diverged from proper G1 so wildly in setting and tone, a lot of people have taken to calling it the G2 cartoon as a sort of simplified shorthand, instead of G1.5 or Tales. And to protect G1’s name.

Well, as we know, there was no G2, and tales is still more G1 with its close to 80s style/early 90s style. That said, not sure what you by seasons, unless you’re referring to the series after.
