Personally, I ignore Flash’s character (or lack of) and make shit up. That and I like using him as the cowboy cop to Shining Armor’s By the Book Cop

I think it’s because the writers are just incapable of writing a decent love story or even a decent love scene.

Of course they were going to have an awkward shipping moment with Twilight and Flash Sentry. I hate the guy and even I know it was basically bound to happen.
 
The reason Flash Sentry is an ideal love interest is because he is ‘non-committal’ – that is, the writers likely don’t intend to give him a big role in the actual cartoon, and if they ship Twilight with a pony that often appears in said cartoon, they’d likely find it more difficult to pretend it never happened.
 
I haven’t seen the movie, and I don’t know how major Flash Sentry’s role is, but it’s also possible this moment was just a shout out to the awkward moments the two shared in the previous film.

Well, it is basically what I wanted, yeah.

Probably. Despite lots of evidence indicating that the thing they didn’t want to happen was going to happen, they held onto the slim glimmer of hope that it wasn’t going to happen. Then, lost their shit when it happened.

On the one hand, I don’t like the idea of any of the main MLP characters having romances.
 
On the other hand, I don’t like Twilight, and I like to see the anti-FlashLight people suffer.
 
On the other other hand, I’m not really a fan of human!Flash (I like his pony form okay), so the less I see of him the better.
 
On the other other other hand, this isn’t the main Ponyverse, so why should I give a sh!t?
 
As long as there’s Sunset Shimmer (and her part isn’t insultingly brief), I’ll be satisfied.
