What a knightmare!
I decided to practice armor and faces. Constuctive feedback is very welcome, as always!

Many thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
Gonna borrow this photo >>714298 to show something
As for just colors, I color picked your colors and stuck them on the bottom. What I was seeing that the colors kinda sit in their own island, not interacting with each other.
If dealing with realism, there is actually quite a lot going on with colors. There’s two things I wanna show here: occlusion shadows and reflected light.
Occlusion shadows: it gets darker in places where light generally won’t reach, in ‘tight’ corners’ for a lack of a better term. Her nostrils approach a black color since there’s little light that can get inside. I think You’ll find a source that can explain this better than I can though
And reflected light: The orange light that makes the wig visible is also the same light that can act as a minor light source. It’s why her skin appears orange in occluded areas of her face - because it’s primarily lit by the wig.
As for color theory, if you were to put a purple object inside a white room, the purple light that makes the object visible also acts as a minor light source for the walls, floor and ceiling. So, if you bring a purple object into a white room, the room will appear more purple in theory.
You could make colors more convincing if they are ‘pulled together’. If your colors sit around in their own island, they won’t look like they belong together and something won’t look right
As for anatomy, it was suggested that the best way to practice anatomy is by sheer quantity to build experience. Theory goes that you can only learn so much from one drawing.
So…. I make lots of sketchy drawings copied by eye from references. Earlier today, I sketched nine noses to learn its shapes from various perspectives. If I were to say, sketch a thousand noses, I have experience with what an IRL nose looks like from however many perspectives I practiced in. I posted those and other sketches on this blog if you’re curious as to how I’m personally doing this: http://megapractice.tumblr.com/
Hi Brienne of Tarth

Thanks for the feedback. What makes you recommend color theory regarding this picture?
This is the actual practice. I rarely get to do human faces.
(IMO, bad advice to only do what you’re good at. easy way to not improve)
I would suggest looking into color theory, specifically unifying colors and reflective light
Realistic proportions are also very hard to do right, and I’m not quite feeling it here. Is this your actual practice or do you practice faces in other ways too?
meh
I mean really old.
