I noticed a part looped, but because my computer decides not to play nice today, I couldn’t get it to work. So instead I decided to speed it up and post the results. That counts for something, right?
You got a low threshold for ‘drama’, I would guess.
I didn’t say it couldn’t work, because I know it does; what I was referring to was that since RD is the band leader she may have preferred not to have them in there, for whatever reason.
As for all singing, all but Fluttershy and maybe Dash is considered non-diegetic. Sure, they can hold a pitch but FS has a canon great voice.
Man, violins and rock go together like nougat and caramel, I don’t know what you’re talking about.
As for “backup vocals”, they all sing, so that’s not too special.
Who is to say that she can’t play and instrument (and if she can’t there’s nothing wrong with that either)…if anything maybe the style of music they play, whatever it is, doesn’t lend itself to violins and flutes. It’s clear her role is backup vocals though.

Except a violin, a flute or her voice probably wouldn’t be loud enough to be heard over the others. As of the piano, Rarity already plays one

YES. I CAN. Quite easily in fact. A viloin would suit her, as would a keyboard, or a flute, or any number of classy instruments. As PonyPon said, she also can sing like a virtuoso. This tambourine stuff sucks.
We did learn recently she could sing.
And she did write a song that will no doubt be fantastic to the others.
Are you aware of late-60’s cartoons, like say Jabberjaw or The Archies, that involved kids in a rock band? Invariably they had one kid who was just there to play tambourine. I like to think Rainbow Rocks is just doing a homage to those shows. Wouldn’t be the first time Meghan and/or the DHX staff have pulled a fairly obscure reference.
Besides, could you really see Fluttershy playing anything else? I sure as hell can’t.

Moving on.
As long as it isn’t offensive to tumblr slacktivists and “Soccer Moms”, Hasbro won’t care what I think. Of course, we have no idea who actually came up with the stupid tambourine concept. Maybe it was the toy division, maybe it was McCarthy, and maybe it was marketing.
So why not complain to Hasbro?
This is the one thing I hate about this movie. They could have given her any instrument, and they chose… THAT.
Probably doesn’t like rock instruments.
