To be fair, Char started the war as a trained pilot and Amuro started it as a total putz civilian whose only prior experience was on ambulatory forklifts, but it sure as heck did take Amuro a long time to pilot up considering he was driving a mecha that was markedly superior to everything he faced up until the last weeks of the war.
yes there’s that (char maximizing the zaku’s performance) but again, i’d compare the pre-gundam battles of the OYW to the zeons having tanks while the feddies still only have cavalry (even the numbers aren’t enough to make them equal), so it’s kinda hypocritical to accuse amuro of winning/surviving due to the gundam alone when at one point he’s the amuro to the feds (even a standart zaku II would still be superior to what the feds have at that time).
Didn’t he make Ace at the Battle Of Loum in one of the early production model MS-06C Zakus? He did the bulk of his Red Comet gallivanting in a standard officer’s model, and the whole THREE TIMES FASTER!!! thing got explained away later as Char just using the S model’s 30% increase in speed in a highly efficient manner by bouncing off of stuff to conserve fuel.
The real scrub in a supersuit was pre-Newtype Amuro, who would have been splashed about a bajeellion times if he hadn’t been driving the Gundam.
Wufei in Gundam
Pretty BoyWing was just ridiculous when he said it, though, since he got beat like a rented stepchild any time he was out of his Gundam superweapon.
