Well, Nightmare Moon is kind of a corruption of these elements if you think about it. She’s Loyal only to herself, she clings to lies, and she laughs at the misfortune of others.
The same way Twilight and co. knew how to use them, I suppose.
I wonder if when Luna succumbed to her bitterness, hatred, and jealousy, and became Nightmare Moon, it was due to her betraying those Elements she wielded against Discord?
