Actually, hanging was by far the most common form of execution, since they were still a British territory, and the punishment for felony crime in Britain was hanging.
A few were crushed to death by increasingly heavy stones, or died in prison. Burning was an exceptionally rare form of punishment, and far more common in Europe.
