Magic for unicorns and Pegasi seem to be able to manipulate things with their wings.
 
Earth ponies could do it with their tails, but that’s not going to be the most accurate in most cases.
 
The best case would be designing saddle based weapons, like in Fallout:Equestria, or small canons and such on their backs.  

 
The other instance could be to make the triggers larger and able to fit a hoof through them or a pump like option. Both cases would probably be more akin to small arms, with pegasi the more likely to have large, more handy weapons due to flight, so they can land on clouds and stay airborne, as well as keep firing while movie. (Which would be difficult to nearly impossible for an earth pony. A unicorn could do it, but only with the aid of magic and magic takes some concentration, so it’s not going to be as effective while multitasking in combat.)
