@Background Pony #E512
well 2snacks is an animator, he’s the one who has done all those Two Best Sisters play and done tons of animations for the Super Best Friends Play, that’s what he does for a living
well, 2snacks is one hell of a 3D animator, I gotta give him credit for that. The movements, the expressions, the little exquisite eye motion details and the timing of everything, this is close to show quality stuff, if it was done in CGI.
nah, on second thought, with a little touches by an editor this is most definitely that of equal to show quality.
@Percy Technic
I second this comment.. people have absolutely no idea how much tideous effort goes into every little tiny weeny little small point of a surface goes into 3D modelling.
that’s not even the worst of it though, the hardest part of this specific procress is making a 3D model that moves organically and Moves well as a cartoon character. That is hard as fuck and only the most experienced of animators would have an easy time dealing with that monumental task..
this model could be better, but making it better requires so much trial and error for a fan, it would be better for them to just do their own thing and actually get paid for all that effort and time sunk into a good and organic MLP model.
This doesn’t seem to be something that would be used in a game animation. I don’t know what the overall polygon count is, but this seems far too detailed to be practically used in a game engine, beyond a pre-rendered cutscene. In addition, this model and rig seems very, VERY thorough, as if to literally cover everything within a reasonable range of expectations, animation-wise.

What people forget is that there’s a far different scope of what SFM/GMod ponies are meant for, and what these rigs are for. You want to have near-accurate models that render in real time? You’re going to have to give up some of the facial skeleton aspects that would drastically slow down rendering and stick with at least being able to make good expressions with eyes, ears, and mouths - ala what the SFM ones do. You want finer control for non-real time rendering project? That’s what these Maya models can do.
The SFM models are very good for the job they are meant for, and should not be something to sneeze at. They’re also eons easier to use (fewer skeleton joints, etc.).
To the people talking about how bad the Source pony models look like. Well yea they do look a little weird. But starting from scratch or doing super high poly models takes way too long to redo. I would but I’m more of a static prop maker not organic. This model is amazing and does have a lot nicer flexes than the pony models + better overall mesh. But remember. These are in a 3d program and not a game engine like source. These ponies will always look better than the ones we have for use in SFM/Gmod.
@Scrounge
But that leg still perpendicular to the ground, even though remaining legs are tilted. @BunnyCat
I’m not sure if you feed jokers and keep deranging thread on purpose
