Well there are a lot of male fashion designers out there. But if they act like Rarity, well do you know who Harald Glööckler and Karl Lagerfeld are? If Rarity was male she would be kinda be like a mix of them. Well probably with a bit different fashion sense.

Wow, you must live in a magical utopia to have never encountered socially enforced gender norms. Quick, go back! Don’t let the internet poison your unsullied mind.

“I think Twilight is pretty androgynous, especially in personality. You could apply her exact personality to a male character and think nothing of it.”
This is a depressing thing to read. EVERY character in this show can be gender swapped and it’d not come off as even slightly odd. There are no characters in Friendship is Magic that are tied to their sex. That is some messed up backwards thinking you have there if you think guys can’t act like the mane 6.
Similarily, you could replace just about any guy in most anything with a woman and it’d also seem normal. There is no such thing as a girly character, or a boyish character for that matter. This brilliant series was kinda made to show that, and you’ve ignored it…

It’s considered acceptable for girls to act “boyish”, but not for boys to act “girly”. Given that MLP is primarily intended for a young female audience, making it a point to defy this social standard would probably benefit the show very little, and would risk being more trouble than it’s worth.

It’s shows aimed at a male audience that should be held accountable. :P

I don’t really see Pinkie Pie as “girly.” Unless OP meant “childish.” Pinkie’s actually pretty androgynous, too, in that her personality could easily be applied to a male character with not a bat of the eye (cough Cheese Sandwich cough). Also, I would label RD as a jock. “Butch” or even “soft butch” is a weird label to apply to me, because it’s way too focused on her failure to adhere to our culture’s gender norms, so it’s a really subjective (not to mention a little insulting for a lot of people) term. Honestly, I think a chart like this would be much more appropriate if it didn’t try to think so hard about finding a female-specific terminology and just went with the character type that fit best regardless of gender.

I think Twilight is pretty androgynous, especially in personality. You could apply her exact personality to a male character and think nothing of it. Her coloring makes he seem slightly more feminine, though.
As far as the “butch” terminology, it’s actually hard to think of another word that describes a masculine female. “Tomboy” works okay for Rainbow Dash, but it’s a term that’s used fairly liberally. I’ve seen a lot of pretty feminine girls describe themselves as “tomboy”. The only thing wrong with “butch” is that it has a bit of negative connotation for some, and is considered to be synonymous with “mannish”.

I wouldn’t describe Twilight as androgynous, more as geeky/nerdy and applejack isn’t a tomboy, that is more rd’s resort.
And I don’t know if the terms soft butch and butch are even fitting here. They just don’t sound right.

One of the loudest, and most important messages of the show.

I would count Twi as “brainy,” though.
