This goes beyond not being an adult. Come on, she threatened two goddamn worlds over her love. Not only that, but the ending of the comic made little sense and made Celestia look even worse.
 
I’m just gonna mention these:  
Remember how she had to banish an evil king that enslaved ponies into the ice?  
Remember when we saw how Celestia had to banish her own sister to the moon to save the world?  
Remember how she tried to go in hoof-on-hoof combat with an evil succubus queen that threatened her kingdom?  
Remember the time she personally tried to defend Canterlot from an invasion?  
Remember when she went on an adventure with only Spike as her companion, despite royal guards protecting her 99% of the time? (Spike/Celestia Friends Forever)  
Remember when she gave up her power willingly because she had the foresight to tell that it couldn’t and wouldn’t be her that would save the day?
 
This arc doesn’t fit all of those, but that’s just me.

The only thing that’s pathetic here is the depiction of the strong, sometimes-wise and sometimes overestimating, but overall caring Celestia and turning her into a horrifically irresponsible horny teenager.

I never said you couldn’t criticize the writing itself (though I also haven’t seen anyone really say exactly what was bad about it beyond “The Pacing!” or “It’s Terrible!”), but stories aren’t “bad” just because they don’t end with everything all resolved happily.

You don’t like it because when a character has zero personality or zero screen presence, like Celestia or Luna (or Derpy), everyone’s free to fill in the blanks with whatever makes them empathize with or relate to them the most.
 
Then when someone comes along and actually gives them some emotions and personal conflicts and whatnot, it screws all that up and everyone gets butthurt because the “real” character no longer matches the fake one they’ve built up in their head.
 
This happens in every fandom ever, and it’s never not pathetic.

But in the same vein of the “girls cartoon”, saying crap like “oh it’s just a comic, we don’t have to put any effort into the writing and can just shit out a terrible story” is insulting to the medium as a whole.

Oh, here we go. Pulling out the hackneyed “HEADCANON!!!” argument. Despite the fact that Celestia in the show is completely and totally different than Celestia in this comic. Claiming that peoples’ issues with the characterization are just “headcanon” is factually and objectively wrong.

“Just forget it ever happened” is really good advice. She was just trying something new and it flopped.
 
Okay, she was trying “You know that one show that’s all about friendships with no focus on romance, and is all about overcoming the odds together as friends for a happy ending? What if we took out all of that, and made it just about this one character being really, really dumb for a boy for 4 comics and then end on a low note.” So perhaps it wasn’t the smartest of choices, but that’s exactly why we should just ignore it.
 
I mean, shoot, it’s not like anyone still thinks Spike can’t cook because someone made a mistake in Spike At Your Service. This whole comic was just an error, and let’s just say no more and move on.

No, fuck you for thinking your “standards” are anything other than your opinions, and fuck you for going on the internet and going full Comic Book Guy and declaring a quality piece of art to be a piece of garbage just because a certain character’s dialogue doesn’t match up with your personal mental image of how the character should talk.

Now that that’s out of the way.
 
I seriously think that people are overreacting to this comic, on both side of the issue:
 
People who defend the comic: There are legit issues with this, such as the fact that the pacing is messed up, and that Celestia’s characterization is questionable in light of her established personality. Acting like the comic can do no wrong is just turning a blind eye to some pretty obvious issues.
 
HOWEVER:
 
People who don’t like the comic: Yes, this arc is probably the weakest one so far, but stuff like swearing off the comic completely or declaring the Celestia is worst pony or whatever is massively overkill. Yeah, Cook bobbled this arc, but that hardly means that everything she touches will turn to crap from now on. It very well might, but lets not declare it Ruined Forever until we know whether this botchup was just a fluke (Everybody has off days) or whether it’s the start of a downward spiral. Given that just about all the other comics that Cook/Price have put out so far have been really solid, I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt in future issues, even if they mishandled these.
 
As for Celestia being worst pony or whatever, part of the major issue with the comic is that she’s acting outside of her established personality; i.e. the comics aren’t as good specifically because they treat Celestia as being worse than she is. That, and the comics are of dubious canonicity anyway.
 
TL;DR: Yes, the comic has some flaws, but let’s not turn it into the comic equivalent of “DEATH KNELL FOR THE FRANCHISE”.

Reflection drama? What?
