I’m curious as to how much profit could be made selling a pony themed 40k model.
Are there enough fans out there that’d be interested?
A rhino APC model is £22.50 off the shelf, then you’re talking around 5-6 hours at least painting it.
Worst time consuming model I’ve done up to now, is my forge world Reaver titan. Took over 4 months painting 1-2 hours a day, (with breaks of course).
My chaos Reaver took around the same.
I normally paint my models in my dinner breaks at work, (nobody cares, or even looks at what I’m painting at work). So around 1/2 hour a day is spent painting something.
I usually do 2 figures at a time, and they take me 2-3 days. (More if they’re excessively detailed).
Tanks take around a week.
The Derpy gunship took 2 1/2 weeks.
I find doing that much work on a figure that’s probably going to see 2-3 games a week is a bit much, as handling the tends to rub off the paint. I do put that much work in to centerpiece models (official 40k named character figures usually), although I’m hopeless when it comes to faces. Can’t seem to get details right.
Still, when I have a backlog of models that need painting that’d be equivalent to a whole gaming club’s collections, spending an excessive amount of time on each figure isn’t productive enough. (Having a skilled job and living with my parents till I was 30 meant plenty of disposable income, although I now have a family and home of my own so funds aren’t as accessible now).
I’d say it looks pretty dang sweet. I build model kits so I know the suffering of painying small things. :P
