I don’t think that random bootlegs appearing are anything to base anything on: They got way too many things to pimp out right now toywise. They wouldn’t start on an alicorn campaign when they’ve barely begun on Selling the Rainbow power and Rainbow rocks toys.

But I believe images of alicorn toys, mostly knock off MLP toy, have popped up as far back as the Ponibooru era, which was like 2011-the summer of 2012.

Hints of Rainbow Power began appearing near the airing and during the airing of the season 4 premier. The box obviously forshadowed the RP event. Just as that black book foreshadowed Twilight’s ascension. I’m believe I’m seeing a bloody pattern here.

Hey, didn’t knock off alicorn Mane 6 and other random pony toys exist on places such as Taobao and ebay long before that official poster with alicorn Twilight was even leaked from the European toy festival?

All we really know is that Lauren Faust didn’t use the words “princess” or “alicorn” when saying she planned Twilight to succeed Celestia, ergo Twilight was going to remain exactly equal to all of her friends. No tall poppies here.

Yeah, Lauren Faust had the right idea, make Twilight succeed Celestia but without using the term “princess”. That way she’s still exactly equal to all of her friends.

Yup. Need to keep the others in line, and you can’t do that by making them into princesses. Twilight’s the only special one of the bunch deserving to be a princess.
 
Another thing to take into account is that McCarthy has put out the “qualities” of what it means to be a princess. Twilight is the only one among the mane6 who ascended, thus the others don’t measure up. To allow them to “ascend” would be a slap in the face of the title Princess. Also, with Twilight being turned into a Princess, Cadence, Luna, and Celestia can be shoved into the background.
 
To be honest, the only new princess might be a reformed Chrysalis, if it happens in the show, or the Birth of Princess Skyla.

Doubtful. Things seem to be scaling back with MLPFIM, and I have a distinct feeling S5 maybe it for the series.
 
They may make a new series within the FIM world. Either reinvent Twilight like they’ve done with various other Optimus Prime characters, or they’ll do a continuation of the series with a new series. Twilight is older and takes over the role Celestia had for Celestia’s School for gifted unicorns. Have it be where 120+ years have passed. Cadence is still alive, shining isn’t, and Apple Bloom is an older mare like Granny Smith.

They’re kids, they’d digest almost anything you give them save for bad tasting food. As we’ve learned when they praised EqG as “the best thing evar”.
 
But then again. It wouldn’t hurt for them to please the adults as well. If I have a daughter, I wouldn’t even let her touch those accursed Disney princess toys.

The toys would look off and probably wouldn’t resonate with the Little girls: they’ve made a concerted effort to make the Molds of the mane six match their characters (like how nightmare night rainbow dash even has bangs to match dash).
 
They know by now that it works best when the toys looks like the characters to the little girls: its why they made a new mold for twilight instead of using Celestia’s mold after all.
 
I think they know being lazy about things isn’t good for sales now.

What is stopping them from using the same molds they used for Twilight on the rest of the Mane 6? Just recoloured.

Eh, I don’t think hasbro really has alot to gain from Making all six Princesses, instead of Recoloring them Like in rainbow power or the Crystal toyline.
 
If they made them princesses, they’d have to make new molds, they’d have to redesign, they’d have to do alot of things that are expensive.
 
But if they Do things like Rainbow power, where they’re 100% the same but they just have extra colors plastered on them, they Can just use all their existing molds and designs without having to spend more money.
