Oh man sorry bout the late LATE reply >.<. I never got it.
And I suppose, but some of them only have a few episodes, like here at my college library, they only have around 2 DVDs with 4 episodes on them.
And that’s alright, I know there was some that aren’t fans of Amy and Rory, I remember coming across Josh the Fiery Joker’s tumblr and someone asked him what were his least favorite companions, he mentioned Amy and Rose, saying Rose was an idiot and Amy was a bit brain dead at times.
Oh my god, you’re right!Cheerlie and Clara do seem to be similar, especially due to their likability and kind hearted personalities. Clara has always been my favorite companion, I find it hilarious several Whoovians complained about her ‘stealing’ the show. I was a bit heart broken by she and the Doctor departed, I did not expect that.
And likewise, it’s always either “OH TWILIGHT AND THE DOCTOR”, or some other random character. Although I blame Discorded Whooves for the ‘TWILIGHT AND WHOOVES’ thing..
Try looking in a local library. There are some episodes and such of the older shows that aren’t on netflix. (I have no idea why they don’t have all of them, but whatevs.)
Gonna be honest, Amy and Rory were okay in my opinion. Now let me make myself clear, that isn’t to say they bad, far from it. Actually, you made it quite clear about it. And Rory was incredibly awesome as time went by. I mean, dang, that is a guy I would follow into battle. But, I wouldn’t put them in my faves…Eh, nothing really personal. Didn’t really…click, all the way. Still enjoy them though.
Clara, I have to say, is the ‘perfect’ companion. She has a little bit of everything that made some of the previous companions great and even has her own spin on it.
I’m going to sound strange, but I keep thinking she’s pretty much the human Cheerilee. I mean, she’s a teacher that is thrown into some wacky adventures and such with a kind heart and a no nonsense attitude with things. She just reminds me of our local teacher that I am honestly surprised and ashamed that we don’t have more Cheerilee/Doctor Whooves companion artwork and fics.
I found those parts very hilarious actually, especially their reactions.
PFFT X’D That’s fine. And honestly, yeah, I do note that now. I also love how Martha was the only companion (of the revival at least) to leave on her own terms, and that she ended up becoming better after that, such as working for UNIT and even meeting up with Torchwood here and there.
Mickey for me is basically Rory, minus the dying. Now this is gonna sound odd and stupid…but I honestly feel that Amy and Rory were Mickey and Rose done right. Amy had a bit of Rose’s moments of falling in love with the Doctor, but what made it amazing and that unlike Rose, who was too brain dead to realize it…, Amy realized she does love Rory and that love STICK for the rest of their run. I consider them, along with Donna and Clara (and Mickey and Jack) to be the best companions in the series. (sadly I haven’t seen the original series since I’m a pretty poor guy to find them, even Netflix doesn’t have the complete series…).
Same, but then again, I’ve always been a fan of the Eleventh Doctor.
It was odd how everyone kept mistaking Donna and the Doctor as a couple, but they were the closest friends of the bunch.
And yeah, why couldn’t Martha’s senpai notice her? WHY?!! (Yeah, I ship Ten/Martha. Done it for years and I’m not ashamed.) She did right on leaving him, since he wouldn’t shut up about Rose…but it was incidentally that very reason that made him shut up and move on. He realized he was hung up on her to an unhealthy degree.
Mickey was, and is, one of my favorite companions. Honestly, he should have stuck around some more, but we couldn’t have that. Rose didn’t like him and we know that Rose always gets what she wants in the end. (GAH!) She was even jealous of sharing her adventures with him. Seriously?
It’s sad that we had to actually go through a regeneration to get rid of Rose, when the Tenth Doctor is my favorite. (Fourth is pretty much tied though. That guy was awesome. I would have to put number three in second place.)
Forgot to put that not only did Donna make a difference, but she was the only companion (besides Clara) to just have a strong friendship with the Doctor.
She didn’t at all. All except constantly prance about the Doctor and how she “loved” him. Even though she HAD A FUCKING BOYFRIEND EARLIER ON. Although give Mickey credit, he didn’t had to put up with a tramp like her.
Martha was pretty awesome for me, and while I was a bit disappointed she spent most of her time going “Why won’t the Doctor notice me!?”, even though that was his fault for not getting over Rose FUCKING Tyler. Even still, she did an amazing job being a companion, and basically saving the world at the end of Series 3. And what did Rose do?
NOTHING.
Donna for me was a better companion because she wanted to do something more with her life and she wanted to make a difference. And she did. I honestly loved seeing her go from a loud, but still sad woman to a headstrong character who not only was able to make such a difference (give Rose some tiny credit, she did say Donna was “the most important woman in the universe’, considering it was because of her the events of Series 3-4 happened).
And then fucking Russel T. Davis decided to be an asshole and destroy all characterization she had because he had a fucking Rose Tyler fetish.
I didn’t really see ‘Journey’s End’, but I did hear that she did that. I’m just like…“REALLY?! THIS IS WHAT ROSE FUCKING TYLER FANS GET?! SHE SNOGGING WITH THE FUCKING CLONE BUT NOT THE DOCTOR”.
It’s pretty bad that even Billie Piper didn’t like Rose, once commenting that Rose was “a bit of a cow”.
She didn’t do anything to earn that praise. She was pretty much the damsel in distress, other than the time she absorbed the time vortex…AND SURVIVED! (At the cost of the Doctor’s current form.) {Not counting the whole ‘season 4 finale thing’. not much there.}
Martha was the companion that got stuff done. She was with the Doctor every step of the way, even going out alone quite a bit of the time. (Actually, those two were seperated the most frequently of the companions.) The Doctor wouldn’t have won quite a few of his battles without her. Honestly, I liked the idea of the Doctor getting with her. (If only he hadn’t been brooding about…her)
Donna was the comic relief. She rarely was a damsel in distress and never for long. She was more of an observer, really and someone who played off the tenth Doctor brilliantly. It grated on my nerves and made me weep at what they did to her…HER! She didn’t deserve that.
{And Rose got to frolick off with her ‘clone’ Doctor…UGH! She even kissed him in front of her ‘supposed’ true love. Really? Just really?}
WHY WOULD YOU-
Fuck, now I’m crying…
Yes. Thank you thank you, I finally found someone who’s also in the minority of hating Rose Tyler. I hated her treatment of her mother, Mickey, and especially with other companions. I personally find it hilarious the Whoovians accuse Moffat of being a ‘horrible’ writer, when Russel T. Davis kept shoving her in after she left Series 2, making constant references in Series 3 and somehow making her ‘important’ in Series 4. I hate it how the fanbase praises her like if she’s the greatest companion in the show’s revival run.
Are you talking about the dreaded ‘Rose Tyler’?…Cause I’m going to be honest, and I seem to be in the minority on this one, I hate her. It doesn’t help the Doctor kept moaning about her in season 3, then Rose kept popping up in season 4, only to steal some of the spotlight from other characters, such as Donna and Martha.
No no no. I love Donna, I consider her to be one of the Tenth’s best companions. No, I’m talking about the one nearly every Whoovian goes crazy for, and if one insults her, apparently I’ll get yelled at for saying how much I dislike her and just ‘seeking’ attention.
Who was the most annoying character…because you better not be talking about Donna. (Yeah, she was kind of annoying with her first appearance in the Christmas special, but I laughed because she was supposed to be that way and it wasn’t overboard.)
The Noble Mare.
Fuck you Russel T. Davis for taking the best companion to shove in the most annoying character in Tenth’s era.
Harshwhinny: YOU. HAVE GOT. TO BE KIDDING ME!
Cultist: Your false prophecy has caused a stir.
Everybody has favorites and least favorites, yo.
Characters ingrain themselves into our minds in ways that only a medium like entertainment can accomplish. Some will be remembered fondly. Others, not so much. What matters is that we take these characters and their motivations to heart as a part of the story that we love so much. Even if some of these characters annoy or bother us, they’re there because they have to be. The Plot demanded it. We can fanon erase these characters from our own interpretation of the story if we absolutely have to, if we cannot tolerate their presence, but they’re still there at the end of the day. Being Rose. being Donna. Being Rory, patiently awaiting the day when Amy climbs out of the Pandorica alive again. They’re still there.
So Evo doesn’t care so much for Rose? Big deal. She’s already had so much of an impact upon the show that even attempting to argue her importance has become a moot point.
She’s there. She’s mattered. She changed The Doctor himself.
Just enjoy it. It’s easier that way. If we must argue, let us argue over who pours the next shot of hypervodka as we sit and watch from the open TARDIS door as a star explodes. Let us bask in a golden glow, drunken and happy, as great and impossible things occur right before our eyes.
Because if we do. If we simply enjoy ourselves, together, we will surely see something brilliant. And we’ll see it united.
Isn’t that hypocritical what you said there?
>Likes all Doctor’s companions
>Gets pissed at Rose
You clearly don’t like her.
I’m actually surprised people didn’t like Clara. (If I had to choose a pony to be her, I’d choose Cheerilee. I don’t know, they’re both smart, love kids and teaching.)
I actually met a fellow Doctor Who fan who didn’t like her a couple weeks past…She also didn’t like Donna. (She didn’t really have a reason for Clara and she found Donna annoying.)
I’ve liked all the Doctor’s companions myself. (But the less said about Rose Tyler, the better….grrrr.)
Well said nods in respect
If I’m going to be a jerk, I’ll say it’s simply because she isn’t Amy. Much like whenever the Doctor changes, whenever we get a new companion that just, you know, isn’t the last one, a lot of people are going to be upset.
They just saw one of their favorites leave the show for good.
And as a fan, that can hurt.
For others, it might come down to how they feel she’s been built into a Deus-ex-Machina; created as an important plot point more so than a character. To viewers who see her as this, she exists because the writers wanted a framing device to build additional seasons and, eventually, save the Doctor when nothing else could. When he was stuck, an old man at the end of his lives, she would somehow save him. She plead to the Time Lords and, BOOM, additional regenerations.
It’s not hard to see why others don’t like her. Not for me, at least. But I still do like her as both a companion and a total character. I look forward to seeing what she does with Peter Capaldi. It’ll be fun. At the very least, I think so.
If anyone disagrees, well, why on Earth should I care?
That’s the joy of looking forward to something. Even if someone wants to get into an argument with me, in the end, the only opinion that matters when it comes to whether or not I’m interested in the series’ continuation is my own.
Anyone, literally anyone could come up to me and tell me that I’m stupid for enjoying it.
And I don’t care.
Enjoy what you love and never allow someone to bring you to question what you love without good reason.
I liked her, too; surprised others don’t so much. Is it because she’s a cosmic variable that keeps appearing here and there?
My story is on hiatus, but I’ve been working on it since the beginning, yo.
Also, a lot of people give Clara a great deal of shit. I liked her. Especially the idea of someone finally having to bite the bullet instead of the Doctor (for her, attempting to sacrifice herself in order to save him from within his own timestream).
Takes guts, yo.
Once again, right in the feels.
It makes me wonder if there shall be someone who would turn a character from the show into the Impossible Mare…
Doctor Who, man.
Doctor Who.
It does that to you. It does it to me too. It’s okay.
As far as this particular pairing goes, Doctor and Companion, this is how I headcanon it. Noble Harshwhinny slaved away, going from competition to competition all across Equestria, feeling empty because her sole talent in life was to judge the talent of other ponies; never getting to shine in her own right. She became bitter, angry, and downright rude to others… right up until she met a peculiar stallion with a strange blue box.
Through her adventures with The Doctor, she witnessed things that nopony else could ever imagine. Alien worlds, the near constant running from danger and excitement, as well as a sense of fulfillment that she was finally helping others as opposed to what her trophy Cutie Mark has preordained for her: nothing more than a judge.
She finally mattered. She could finally make a difference and do something when something really and truly needed to be done.
Because of what she saw and did, with that strange yet amazing Doctor at her side as her close friend, she finally became a pony that she herself could be proud of. And it wasn’t always because The Doctor was there. More often, it was because she was there for The Doctor, to tell him when he was going too far and when action needed to be taken.
Why? Simply because that’s what a good pony should do. And because that’s what a good friend should do.
And she was a good pony. She saved countless lives, strove to be the best that she could be when her time-travelling friend really depended on her to be better than he could sometimes be… and her reward for all of this?
Noble Harshwhinny was stripped of her memories of each and every adventure because, otherwise, the knowledge would kill her. Right when she shined the very brightest, that’s when it was taken away.
All who have seen her will remember. Though she herself may not, the universe knows that she stood, for one glorious moment, as the most important mare who has ever lived. For one spectacular, amazing moment, Ms. Harshwhinny did not have to judge, but instead she had to act. And her actions both saved the universe and doomed herself to never knowing just how important she truly was / still is.
A pony who began as nothing more than a critic from Hoofington… became the most important mare alive.
Never forget that.
