Yeah, and that’s fair to think in all honesty - Authors can give too much to their readers in all sorts of situations, and it usually doesn’t end pretty. I personally wouldn’t say that they’ve crossed the line of “too far” with their nods fandom-ward yet, but I could find it reasonable for fans to start getting a liiittle uncomfortable, at least.
Point I was making, though, is that if there is issue with the actual story of FIM, it’s not the merchandise’s or Hasbro’s fault.
No. Season one was the days when the. Brony fandom wasnt wide spread, and that the only fanservices were when it was almost ending, such as Derpy and Flutterage. Now, they keep on trying to impress the Bronies by adding in not subtle references to movies. They are trying too hard, but then again this is my opinion
Not really. Compared to all the other garbage that passes as entertainment these days, the story of FIM is a friggin sanctuary. Yes, it has been said and will continue to be said that the show is just a 22-minute advertisement for Hasbro’s toys, but despite that, the writers have actually given it their all to actually make a genuine story that stands even without the toys. All the other trashy shows that’ve been mentioned here are pretty clearly only in it for the merchandise.
While merchandise will always be the main thing that Hasbro does, that doesn’t mean that the show is any less in its story-telling and genuine entertainment value.
…Now of course, if you still think the overall story-telling has gone downhill even with excluding toys from the equation… Well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.
Well, it is! Tirek, Derpy, Power Ponies, The show has gone downhill!
Thank you for your irrelevant opinion
Well, most girls brands have stereotypes.
Ugh. How does the target audience actually like this crap?
I was talking about Ever After High.
Theres also the Beast/Quasimodo stereotype, a guy who looks mean and ugly, but is actually nice and ends up befriending or even hooking up with the girl.
Yeah, its trying too hard to appeal to the Older audience, it doesnt feel natural. It was normal for Season one Pinkie, but for season four it just feels forced.
I’m thinking Flash Sentry was something that was done because they thought it would be cute. There hasn’t been a toy of him, and they don’t even really recognize his existence officially outside of a small blindbag repaint.
Monster/Ever After High appear to have several “Flash Sentries” if my initial impressions are all correct. Specifically, every male character that isn’t cast as a generic “eww, who would ever want to like him” archetype is a “dreamboat” archetype.
Barbie, Disney Princess, basically their just handsome cardboard cut outs the writers wanted them to be. Like Flash Sentry, he was only popular for his relationship with Twilight, not his character. Thats why when making a love interest, you should give the love interest a personality. The love interest cant be known as “the waifu stealer”, or “Auroras prince”
I pity you. I really do.
My previous comment is now relevant, the discussion was how in media targeted towards one gender, the opposite gender is always just arm candy and it isn’t good for either.
I remember a bunch of people complaining about it having too strong of a lens or something, saying that the males in the franchise are hilariously cardboard.
I didn’t like how they would talk back to the narrator. And seriously, I couldn’t believe the stuff they passed off as decent.
I have to live with my younger cousin yapping on and on about why she likes that rebel character, and how she has a crush on that guy, I feel like going mad.
Yeah, I despise Ever After High, especially Apple Something, that Snow White kid.
Yeah, that. The one with fucking King Lear OCs and a horrifying offspring of Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf.
I just found it funny that they’d put a pony parody character in a show on their network. Not that ponies are famous for burping rainbows, but still.
You mean Ever After High?
Oh, and that thing about the Rainbow Unicorn reminds me of The Moxie GirlsPoopsie Pets.
Funny, that’s the exact audience Harry Potter was already aimed for. Ever see the MH spinoff where instead of monsters, everyone is a fairytale character? Pretty much just a mix of Harry Potter and Shrek, but with none of the enjoyment of either.
Even Hub Network themselves is trying to cash in to that with a new show that just looks like another “misadventures of kids at magic school” clone, but this time with a unicorn that burps rainbows. Yes, they have that.
Proof positive that not everything Germany makes is top-quality.
Harry Potter with Tweens?
Hmm… Filly Funtasia?
Which allows you to do so much, even with the setting! Make up new characters, and you can do something new!
Monster High is literally something that I used to joke about, like “oh, what’s next, I bet they try to sell Frankenstein’s Monster to tweens,” but I didn’t expect it to be as bad as it is, and I didn’t expect it to be so successful.
It substantially lowered how much I think the target audience has in terms of discerning quality.
Well, girls like Fantasy and High School.
