Perhaps no matter how different the two are, both believe in the American way and small buisness and they might be led to believe that Romney was the man of the hard working entrepenur.
Perhaps they both would think Democrats would be against meritocracy and hard work. And that they might even put the little buisnessmare down with their taxes.

I don’t want to get into a political debate, but maybe because Applejack is Southern and Rarity enjoys finer things/runs a small business they would vote Republican?
 
Where are those posters that had Rarity promoting the Equestrian Socialist Party, Fluttershy dismissing politics as “too confrontational” and Pinkie Pie confusing what “party” means in this context? Those were way funnier.
