If i were you i would way for Equestria-3’s Sombra debut, then discussions about Prime Sombra (ded as fuck) would be relevant again.

That was just it - he didn’t HAVE to do much, simply because he had prepared everything so well centuries ago that it was nothing but dumb luck that defeated him in the end.
 
I also don’t mind him not talking much - for me, Sombra was the closest to an Eldritch Abomination the show has seen so far, and I like those to be as inhuman and monstrous as possible.

You’re right. I don’t care if people say he doesn’t talk or doesn’t do much. He was extremely close to be coming the biggest threat to Equestria!
 
Had Cadence not caught Spike, the Crystal Empire would be doomed. He was that close, that’s why I think he’s such a threatening villain.

Exactly what I always say. Practically any complaint one can levy against Sombra would also be made about Sauron, and yet people rarely complain about the latter. Most Sombra-bashing feels like people jumping on a bandwagon and recycling vague criticisms they’ve heard other people make, or something.

Sombra was intended to be more of a looming malevolent force than a walking talking character - like Sauron. I think they pulled it off quite well.

The way I see it, Sombra was a menacing, yet seldom-speaking villain, like Kain in “Tenchi: The Movie (Tenchi Muyo In Love)”. Sombra, however, doesn’t come off as having as much depth to his character.

what about once he get inside, he start to E-rated brutally start chaining some ponies into the ground with “cristals”…  
they could even fix the forced “oh no rainbow dash isnt here, so princess cadence have to be the heroes because she is your product placement princess”
 
there is even that scene where a piece of him get inside the town…. and nothing happen… how anticlimactic.

I honestly thought that Sombra would Use Shining Armor at some point during the episode instead of getting nullifying his horn use.

Competent? Everything about him was entirely writer-staged, with no reasonable setup or explanation. It’s about as contrived a scenario as the show has ever had.

He almost succeeded thanks to events he had set in motion centuries before most of the heroes were even born, and was only defeated through sheer luck and coincidence.
 
Easily the most competent villain so far.

Talk about your classic ‘David vs. Goliath’ moments! For a character who hasn’t been given much screen-time or development, Shining Armor displayed a LOT of badassery here!
