@Urishima
Minor influence is still influence. Your initial statement said “no influence”. This was in response to someone suggesting that this scene, which has zero influence on the actual plot, may have been a “wink wink nudge nudge” towards adult fans, likely because they find the whole thing to be hilarious.
Now, I agree, I highly doubt this scene had Bronies or even other adult viewers such as parents in mind, beyond the simple acknowledgment that they were more likely to appreciate it rather than the target demographic. More likely, they just did it for the lulz.
But you see, you weren’t arguing against this scene being influenced by Bronies. If you were, I’d wouldn’t have said a damn thing cause I’d have agreed. No, your argument was that Bronies had no influence, full stop.
I posted Doctor Whooves. You evaded by suggesting it was just another pop culture reference. A stretch, but fair enough. Typewriterpony posted the return of Derpy in Rainbow Falls.
You proceed to move the fucking goalposts, stating that scene could have been any Pegasus, thus Bronies have no influence over major plot and story developments.
Except that was NOT your initial arguing point. Your initial argument was “No influence, period”. To put the cherry on top of this Fallacy Sundae, this debate started over a scene that has absolutely no real importance to the plot of the episode, as Sapphire Shores shaking her ass had NOTHING to do with Sweetie Belle’s moral dilemma and subsequent interactions with Luna, thus rendering the new Goalpost of “No influence on major plot and/or story points” utterly irrelevant.
I point this out, though perhaps in an in-concise manner. You proceed to twist my meaning to ad hominem and strawman me, presenting me as a caricature of those obnoxious idiots who honestly believe this show was conceived with Bronies in mind (and that MLP is not for little girls), and making it appear as if I was suggesting DHX was purposely providing Bronies with material to make porn with.
Great going mate. You sure showed me. Really put me in my place by critically and honestly dismantling my position. No sleeze at all.
Or rather, you put my straw counterpart over here in his place.
Poor bloke. Will take him forever to get over those sicknasty burns you slammed him with.
@Urishima
Nobody said they were tailoring the show completely around us. People just joked that they thought this little scene was put in intentionally because of the fandoms fixation on pony butt. I don’t personally think it is, but you’re making a big shit about this and being a dick about it.
@PonyPon
I like a dash of hyperbole in my arguments after 2 large beer.
@Background Pony #29A5
That is pretty much what I said. We get shoutouts and that’s it.
I am perfectly fine with that, since I fell in love with the show before there even were shoutouts to the brony community. I think we all need to remind ourselves that back when season 1 was made, when it all started, no one on the staff knew that we would a thing.
We had no influence on anything and the show was (and of course still is) great and the show keeps being so good as it is because the writers know exactly what their target audience is.
It’s not us, we are a happy accident. They are writing for young girls and be happy that this is the case, because it would all fall apart if they stopped doing that.
@Urishima
Jayson Thiessen is on record as saying they used the name “Derpy” in “The Last Roundup” specifically as a shout-out to bronies; Derpy and Dr. Whooves being together in a wide shot in “Hearts and Hooves Day” almost certainly was as well. Stuff like the Dr. Who reference and the continued pairing of Lyra with Bon Bon may or may not be specifically intended for bronies.
Still, I agree that the writing has not been aimed at bronies at any time, nor have the DHX animators been putting in material specifically for bronies to fap to. Anyone who believes either has a greatly over-inflated sense of self-importance.
@DiddyJakal
It’s not the horse-ass, it’s people who think they are more important than they actually are.
Bronies are a minority among those who watch the show. Always have been, always will be. We are incredibly unimportant. Be glad that they throw us a bone every now and then, because that is all we are ever going to get.
And those who think that DHX would put ANYTHING into the show specifically so that some of us can use it as wanking material need a reality check. They need to be reminded what kind of show they are watching here.
It is not a show that was made to cater to them in any way, shape or form. They grew to like it anyway.
So pull your fucking head out of your fucking arse, people. No one fucking cares about what gets your dick hard, least of all DHX.
@rogerSnow
I am quite sure I understand what he is trying to say, I just couldn’t believe that he would have his head stuck so deep up his own arse that he would blurt such nonesense out.
Ever heard of a Strawman argument? Because that is all I see.
@Urishima
Talk about changing the goalposts. You used this rhetoric against a comment commenting on one such visual gag with little impact upon the main plot.
Unless Sapphire Shores shaking her ass is somehow intregal to the plot. I haven’t seen the episode yet so it could be. Somehow I doubt it.
@Typewriterpony
Hardly. Wanting to reform Discord is a very MLP thing to do. I bet the kids love him as well, as do the parents who watch the show with them.
@Typewriterpony
Again, what impact did that have on the episode?
They could’ve used anyone else in that scene, it would not have made a bit of a difference regarding the plot. It was a little treat for us, a visual gag, nothing more.
Dash fakes an injury, they find someone to replace her for the tryouts. That’s what happened there. Stick any other pegasus in there and it would still be the same.
@Darth Sonic
So tell me how a few visual gags thrown in here and there as a nod to us bronies have a major impact on structure or plot of an episode or the show overall. Go ahead, explain how Roseluck and Dr. Whooves were crucial to the plot of the episode.
(spoiler alert: they were not)
It wasn’t even a nod to us bronies, it was just your regular pop-culture reference. MLP certainly isn’t the first show to do that.
