I would think so with all those visual changes are going on, especially the huge zoom.
Alternatively, we could say this wasn’t the real Sombra. What if the shadowy being everyone thought was Sombra was just Sombra’s security system?
I like how this one thinks.
Call me crazy, but I think the series could use that right about now. Because I sometimes struggle to find reasons to care about what the more important characters are doing, and a competent Big Bad trying to screw with them is just the kind of conflict I can get into.
And I think the tone could be kept stable. Kid Shows, this one in particular, are usually good at letting pressing issues boil away at the edges of our minds while the characters faff about with their everyday lives.
I always saw that scene as rather tragic:
“I’m sane! I’m back in control! I can finally fix everything! All I need is the Heart and—
“What. What. WHAT.
“Fuck you too, Cadence! Fuck you too!”
(explodes)
LOL That actually does sound really funny!
Hahaha. You’re trying to start shit while being unintelligent.
On that, I would have loved it if Cadence had not caught the heart, and after having his body restored the heart just smacked him in the face and knocked him out.
But then I do like slapstick comedy.
Speaking of which, the Crystal Heart is rather indiscriminate, because King Sombra’s body was restored as he got closer to it. Even he’s surprised by this!
Non of your comments makes sense.
Preach it brother.
Good thing this is fiction. Death is little more than a flesh wound compared to the might of word of God. There will always be alternate universes (comic), time travel hijinks (a potential episode where the characters travel to the past and meet King Sombra at his prime) or why not, good ol fashioned revival rituals with a piece of living tissue (the horn).
Alot of great cartoon/movie villains are dead to.
“No-one dies like Gaston!”
True, but all ever so slightly undermined by him being dead.
More like a pony Ganon. Once brilliant, now a dark, twisted monstrosity.
By that logic, all the bit-characters, or background characters suck to for not talking either…
I actually liked Sombra, I don’t care what anyone thinks. He was arguablly one of the more serious, creepy, and genre-savvy villains we’ve had in the series. I felt his subtleness, and foreboding nature actually helped make him a bit more threatening, and mysterious then other MLP villains.
Also for some reason he reminds me of a pony Ganondorf.
I’m just wondering if they will do anything with Dark Magic anymore. I mean Twilight has been using it occasionally since season 3 and even as an alicorn. And it seems interesting that there is another powerful source for magic other than friendship.
Over use of it can’t be good though…
Let’s see how coherent you are after spending a millennium as living shadow. Even in extreme necrosenility, he managed to be a major threat.
I think that one (perhaps stupid) theory why Sombra was not allowed to live was that when the season 3 opener was written (2011) FiM was still in the “season 3 is 13 episodes long and will be the last” phase. Not killing Sombra would have left that storyline open. They killed him because they just needed something to kick the season in motion, something to test Twilight with and nothing permanent, because it would never get finished. Had Sombra been in season 4, he might (again I must remind you how stupid this theory is) have become more persistent threat.
Yeah, I remember the official MLP encyclopedia saying that King Sombra had potential to be an extreme threat, or something along those lines.
Only villain to not gloat like a stupid James Bond villain
Lackluster
Let me guess, you like Derpy?
