It’s too early to discuss Twilight’s immortality, and the show isn’t easy at picking aging, and eventually death, as a topic, since it’s quite a sensitive deal for a TV-Y cartoon.
@Archonix
I don’t see how you can say this myself.
However you might feel about the change itself trying to argue Celestia didn’t directly set it in motion and guide it toward that end without any real input from Twilight is pretty untenable in my view.
I don’t mind that so much as frankly my own view on Celestia has always been a bit less rosy then some. I have no real issue seeing her as someone willing to force people to do things ‘for their own good’, or the good of her country. I think her thought process might well have been as simple as:
“Holy shit this unicorn is powerful, letting that age and die would be a total damn waste for the country. You’re getting wings whether you like it not girl, and I’ll spin some crap about how it was your destiny, inevitable, etc to smooth it over after the fact.”
O boy, incoming Twilight Snapple!
Man, if you thought Luna got up to some crazy shit when she snapped, just wait until this princess cracks!
@Lathius
And she will rip down all those intimidating dusty walls and replace them with BOOKS
(at least until she’s stuck in there reading for so long that Pinkie decides to PARTY SIEGE
Y’know, I just thought of something: MLP:FiM started because Celestia sent Twilight to do something that Twilight didn’t want to do and that changed her life drastically. Make of that what you will.
@Darth Sonic
I’m not sure if the spell even would have done that if it had been cast normally. After all, she had to get hit by the Elements of Harmony.
Still have no idea of why they were in the episode.
@Sjogre
I honestly don’t know a better term to call it, besides Twilight literally says in the very first episode: ‘The spirits of the Elements of Harmony are right here!’
Yeah when you think about it’s still strange how a pony that couldn’t care less about friendship eventually becomes the representation of friendship. But that has always been a odd thing right from the start.
@Background Pony #B36C We know that Twilight and the others are the living spirits of the Elements of Harmony, thus can we be pretty sure that the star on the tree is Twilight’s cutie mark.
Living spirits? We know that the Manes possess those traits, but not more than that.
But yeah, Twilight seems to be related to that tree now, although I’d take the presence of the marks of the Royal Sisters as the important proof. But I’m still wondering if it had to be Twilight. Her brother did have the same mark, and in a lot of ways, he seems better qualified for making friends.
@Sjogre
True, you don’t even need much imagination to identify Sunset Shimmer’s cutie mark as being the one portrait on the tree. Might even be one of the reasons Celestia toke her as her prodigy first. She probably recognized her cutie mark as being similar to the one on the tree and noticed her magical prowess.
But we’re getting a little of topic. We know that Twilight and the others are the living spirits of the Elements of Harmony, thus can we be pretty sure that the star on the tree is Twilight’s cutie mark. This means the prophecy still stands and exists for a long time.
Celestia banished Luna permanently, and not to the moon, but in the moon; she just managed to escape after a thousand years. It’s amazing how many people just switch around those little details to their liking, but the difference is pretty damn significant…
Then again, I doubt the show will show the Mane Six aging and dying, so we have nothing to worry about. And that Hasbro will leave it up to interpretation about ponies’ lifespans.
@Sjogre
She led the troops in the most obvious and logical course of action in Celestia’s absence… once.
But nah really, do you actually want FiM to go the route of ‘political intrigue’ etc? Personally I’m enjoying the way they are handling it thus far, also Its been heavily implied Twilight will move into the Everfree Castle, open the box, turn on Rainbow Power™ and get her own kingdom(though I sure as hell hope its not really called the Rainbow Kingdom).
