The only problem with MLK’s speech is that its central message of equality keeps being overlooked…by blacks surprisingly. Remember the part where he says

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Well okay…blacks (the group, not necessarily the individual) still haven’t gotten to the point where they can see beyond skin color. When some of them look at a white person, all they see is someone to pin their blame on, and to hold accountable for acts that individual has never committed (owning slaves, hate crimes, etc.)

So my question is, if someone looks at a white person, and all they see is skin color, how then are they judging that person by their character? Just because someone is white doesn’t mean they are a racist, and yes, saying that being white is guilt enough is the same as saying that all blacks are crooks, thieves, rapists, drug addicts, and what have you. The point is we won’t have equality because all the blame is one sided.

Quit blaming whitey for all the problems in your life, and start being more open minded and forgiving if we are to put race aside, and quit blaming one another for what has happened 200 years ago. I’m not saying to forget the past, but I am saying to quit looking back so much, because it is hampering both sides from moving forward, and having a better life.

Oh, and in before the tl;dr crowd starts to chime in. If you didn’t read it, that’s fine, no one needs to be informed of your laziness.
