This comic actually has some bronystorical significance. It was made in 2012 April.  
Sitting Lyra was an early meme and it was with the help of thelivingmachine02 and egophiliac in mid-2011 that bipedal Lyra became a thing. But it was only Hearts and Hooves Day aired in 2012 February (where car tires and skulls could be seen underground) that Lyra’s obsession with human-like behavior was rounded up to an interest in actual humans.
 
And it was slightly before that that “hands” even entered the equation. The fanon that Lyra’s wish for hands is relating to playing her lyre does in fact appear in a few fics and comics that were made during this time.  
These days this angle is not often used, but this is probably the comic that gives the most thorough explanation for this interpretation.
