Actually, I think Luke is based more on Crono, from Chrono Trigger, a game that is well-known for having Akira Toriyama as the character designer (and for being a damn great game).

There actually is a Star Wars manga series, but there isn’t anything truly noteworthy about them; they are basically just the movies in a comic book format done with a more Japanese art style.
