… I’m beginning to think we weren’t watching the same movie. The human universe’s other five embodiments of the Elements of Harmony were there, and were necessary in the defeat of Sunset Shimmer. I have problems with the way the Element of Magic was used in the movie, but to say that it alone defeated Sunset Shimmer is flat-out wrong.
 
To sum up, you’re basing your conclusion that Twilight’s the only character that matters anymore on one slice-of-life episode and one movie in which she had to have the help of five friends (and, indirectly, Spike) in order to defeat the villain. Feel free to continue believing that, of course, but don’t be surprised if others reject your speculations about the future of the show.

We should have a series of comics with Discord attempting to play pranks on her during the night, and her hearing him and waking up to fire the crown through the wall, before dropping it back on her nightstand and going back to sleep.  
When she finally truly wakes up in the morning, it’s due to a stiff breeze, and after waking to send spike to close the door, she’s like “DIIIIISCOOOOORD” after seeing all the holes throughout the library’s roof.

You know, this conversation has got me thinking. I might’ve actually like eqg if it was acknowledged in universe what an indignity it was for Twilight to go from an important adult in a fantastical, magical, meaningful world to having to wallow around in the shit of human adolescence at a high school in a shitty, non magical, pointless world full of vapid chimps. Like, if that was the major conflict of the story she had to overcome, I might actually have been delighted by the movie.

To be fair, Celestia left the elements under Twilights care (which isn’t totally unreasonable given that she’s helped save the world a few times) so it could’ve been Twilight dropping the ball here. No need to blame EVERYTHING dumb that happens in universe on poor writing. It’s not like people irl haven’t been careless with things that are supposed to be extremely important. Not to mention, one would hope the new super-duper alicorn princess would be at least as well guarded in a palace while she sleeps as a vault.

“Friendship is Magic”, “The Return of Harmony”, and Equestria Girls seem about equal in that regard; “The Royal Wedding” and “The Crystal Empire” actually give the hero status to someone else, with Twilight in a supporting role (though in a bigger role than the rest of the Mane 6). I don’t really see a big change there.
