And see the bold commanders, my Mally O?
You will hear the captains callin’
And see the surgeons thrallin’
And all the soldiers fallin’, my Mally O.
>>Twilight reading the journal of pic related’s time at Passchendaele.
>>Her thought bubble should feature a muddy, barren wasteland covered with thick, sloshy mud, trees stripped of >>all branches and some narrowed down to mere stumps, water filled shell holes every few feet, dead bodies strewn >>about in the mud, some half sunken into it, others exposed completely along with their ghastly wounds, and >>finally pic related sitting in a shallow trench with some of his mates behind a Vickers heavy machine gun.
>>Twilight is shocked/surprised by what she is reading while pic related (sitting in front of her) has a look of >>sorrow on his face because he regrets letting this cute, innocent pony read about something so horrific as The >>Great War.

Never read that one before. Ominous, that.
Ahhh, I was afraid someone might not get the reference.
No, it’s not a direct quote from the book. Though Quotes were made from Anthem of Doomed youth, most of it was my own writing, proud to say.
Also, that poem, “Anthem for doomed youth”, is a really good Poem.

Give it a listen.
Excellent book, Private Peaceful. Is that a direct quote?
September 26, 1917, Ypres, Belgium.
What passing bells for those who die as cattle?
Only the monstrous anger of the guns. The blood of Britian’s finest now lay drenched upon the scorched earth of this godforsaken place. Out of this mass grave we call a trench I can hear the anguished cries of the dying. I both pity and envy them. When I die, save me the mockeries of a funeral. It would be an insult to insinuate that God has anything to do with the deaths of so many thousands. Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs….The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells. I’ve made my peace.
According to the artist’s Tumblr, it seems to be.
You bastard, making me laugh.
― Erich Maria Remarque, All Quiet on the Western Front
…What if Equestria sort of works like Gensokyo, except with ponies in a medieval setting, instead of shrine maidens and magicians firing millions upon millions of bullets at each other.
