(Did this for the Newbie Artist Training Grounds in 2012!.)
I never said it was. I though we were talking about what makes a true true friend.
I don’t disagree with your assessment of friendship, but that is NOT how the lyrics of the song went.
Yeah, and an overarching storyline would be a breath of fresh air.
The closest thing we have is the Grand Galloping Gala of the first season. (I think we had two episodes that dealt with it prior to the season finale and it was insinuated that it would happen.)
Hopefully season 4 will have an arc.
But for what we got, it wasn’t that bad. I enjoyed it, despite its flaws.
my issues were with the “dumbledore at ghost platform 9 3/4” style twilicorn godhood ascension. that shit was really weird and they really didn’t give themselves enough time to describe it right. I know M A Larson said it’s kinda the first part of a three episode plotline, but that episode alone should have had at least three episodes if not having the “switched cutie marks” plot being stretched across half of the season.
seriously, fluttershy being kind enough to discord to make him feel bad about being a jerk would have really worked as an episode based around her rediscovering her special talent for taming the untamable through kindness. too many pinkie pies would have worked quite well as a “pinkie pie rediscovering WHY she likes to make jokes and acting like a doofus even though she’s definitely one of the most intelligent characters on the show” episode. (that she likes making other people happy) apple family reunion was an episode reminding applejack that her family is her greatest motivation, and her most prized treasure. half of the season could have had the “switched cutie marks” plot be overarching culminating with an episode centered around twilight training to repair the damage that she had done, and then another one where she is getting coronated culminating with her becoming a princess, and then having some actual room for a joke or two in there somewhere.
also, instead of being punished for casting an incomplete experimental spell made by an extremely powerful unicorn, putting her life and the lives of everyone around her in danger, she gets rewarded with god mode! that’s like if I stole a supervirus from a secret government facility, popped open the petri dish, and slathered it all over my face, having it drive everyone insane, and then because I helped work on finding a cure they give me the nobel peace prize and a lifetime supply of chocolate instead of saying “well I guess we broke even there, but you’re going to have to earn our trust back before we let you work with any more state experiments.”
maybe enough to repair a damaged dress, but quite easily not enough to design outfits on the fly while using it. also, she was obviously flustered about her designs not turning out right, so that could quite easily have led to many of her mistakes that just made things worse.
You’re over-thinking it. You acquire a true true friend by being one yourself, not by impersonally analyzing the situation and deciding what grade of friendship you’re willing to go to.
A friend is someone you like. A true true friend is someone you love, and are willing to put yourself to inconvenience or even peril on behalf of.
Found the scene
Also: If a true, true friend helps you see the light that shines from a true, true friend. How do you get a true, true friend in the first place? If you don’t have a true, true friend, then they can’t show you the light that shines from within a true, true friend, because you don’t have one.
Conversely, musical numbers can be used to convey a lot of activity in a relatively short period of time. For instance, What My Cutie Mark Is Telling Me would have taken a lot longer had it been Twilight going to each pony in turn, seeing what they were doing and how they were failing, trying and failing to reason with them, and moving on to the next pony. The song conveyed that information gracefully and in a shorter time span.
Yeah, or maybe Discord or someone casts a spell causing everyone too sing.
Or we could just have a bunch of songs going on about what everyone is doing during the day. (Possibly poking fun at the characters.)
Yeah, this may not have been the best choice of an episode to do it, but they didn’t want to turn this into a two parter, so the songs were there to shorten the process. And I thought the songs helped strengthen the episode {which kind of felt rushed still}.
I still like this episode, and it’s certainly not the weakest FIM episode out there, but it does have faults.
True, but it’s my theory you should save those for when the episode in question has nothing important happen. A kind of “let’s have fun with this episode”.
The kind where Discord and Sombra have a duet and no one complains because nothing really matters.
A musical episode was inevitable.
Ah thx
Two words: Alicorn Twilight.
Also, there was about 11 minutes of music in a 22-minute episode, and some bronies thought that was too much.
How was it controversial?
Magical Mystery Cure. Season 3, episode 13. A very controversial episode.
If I remember correctly, Rarity was also crying when RD appeared to clear the skies.
Yes…gravitate towards Dashy, Rara
Loved those faces.
Loved that animation.
Loved this sequence.
Loved this episode.
@PonyPon
Yes, AJ was the only one who cried. I suspect it’s because she’s the Mare of the House normally, and is used to being competent. Not that the others aren’t, but none of them have the same level of responsibility that AJ has.
Pure cute moment from RD there.
