This isn’t the worst model I’ve seen, but it could use some work. the main issue is that it’s too smooth - there should be a few harder angles, and rounder shapes.
@Techy Pony
yeah, and well to anyone implying I’m hating on this no I wasn’t. I was giving my opinion and giving probably the most though out constructive criticism I ever have so far.
@OneAmongOthers
What if I like that the sfm ponies look the way they do? They’re basically made to look exactly like the show but 3D. That is accomplished by the sfm ponies though they usually could use work in terms of more realistic motion and hair movement.
It’s kind of hard to compare this to sfm models. It’s like calling one art style better than another, there’s just no objective ground to work on.
I see it like this. Show accuracy goes to sfm models, but this one looks more “realistic” in the fact that it’s a little more believable it could exist.
I think she looks great! Her hair needs a little work as well as the ears, but you’re doing a great job! I like the the eyes a 100% more than the show canon ones. Much more believable. Her mane (though a little too bouncy) looks really good! Keep up the great work and to hell with the haters! They’re just mad that their show canon ponies can’t look as amazing as this. This btw blows away the rubbery and plastic looking SFM ponies.
While the model is a bit strange, I like the actual animation to this, it’s actually kind of cinematic almost in a way, and I do like how this may be the first pony model with actual rendered hair, though the physics of it DO need to be tweaked.
It looks like something out of Jimmy Neutron almost, lol. Like the animation style is exactly like that.
I’d say like other people were saying, try to tweak the model to kind of like an HD version of the SFM model. Like with the features of this but the look of that, though it would also be good if you maybe even tweaked it better than the SFM models, as they definately still aren’t perfect. more show accurate then the SFMs perhaps, but I’m not putting any kind of pressure on you.
Good test, keep improving, I do admire your apparent work on the prototype rig.
I greatly appreciate the amount of effort it took to create this, sure it could do with some improving (like the hair, but in my short experience as a 3D modeler, hair can be a tough thing to get right.), but it still turned out good in my honest opinion.
I would really like to see more of your work in the future.
Well, the problem is criticism itself. Everyone needs it to evolve them and make their work better. What’s unfortunate is that you have jerks/trolls that lump criticism in with bashing a piece of work. They say “it’s stupid,” or word it along those lines, and give little to no criticism to the artist to help them grow.
“Constructive Criticism” is the name of the game to make an individual grow. General Criticism, while a person is entitled to their opinion, will just cause the creator to shut down. Being a bit of a hypocrite and contradicting myself, you can give overly constructive criticism to the point where you just point out flaws, not giving reasons to why the artist is “on the right path” and such. Overly constructive criticism where you just nit-pick everything can be just as damaging as general criticism if not more so in some cases.
I’d rather people say it’s uncanny if it’s uncanny. I’ve been working on this rig for a couple months now, so I wouldn’t have been able to tell without the harsh criticism.
Thanks to all the criticism (both bad and good), I can now work on creating a better end result :D
