Okay, do you mind explaining how he isn’t a Gary Stu, despite the overwhelming evidence?
No comment.
If his personality isn’t ripped from Fluttershy, then do you mind telling us what his personality actually is? I’ve seen multiple character bios for him, but not a single one of them actually tells us what his personality is like.
And that explanation is completely nonsensical, since Twi’s only friend before moving to Ponyville was her brother. Furthermore, she and Ben apparently only knew each other as foals for a short time, and yet she pined for him for years despite barely knowing him. That’s not simply forced, that’s really kind of offensive.
That’s no excuse for him having a triforce cutie mark when he has nothing whatsoever to do with The Legend of Zelda.
Do you mind explaining what exactly this development was? Give us examples!

First off, the correct word is Gary Stu, which Ben obviously is NOT. Second, he was transformed into a Demon Pony from the result of a Mini-Were being fused to him. Third, he’s not copying Fluttershy’s personality. Fourth, the relationship between him and Twilight is NOT forced; they’ve known each other since they were foals. Fifth, any pony can have any random cutie mark. And sixth, he has had specific character development over the past 3 years, so HA to you!

Ben Mare is:
Copies Fluttershy’s personality
Twilight’s force love interest
Celestia’s adopted kid
Can turn into a demon for some reason
Has the Triforce for a cutie mark
3 Elements of Harmony
Little to no character development
Result: Marty Stu
could you explain what makes Ben Mare a good character?
I’m not sure if your reply was intended for me or someone else, but I can assure you that Ben Mare is NOT a good character. He’s pretty much the poster child for bad OCs. He has very little, if any personality (and from what I’ve heard, said personality is just a male version of Fluttershy), is shoehorned into the life history of several other main characters (mainly Celestia and Twilight), bears no less than three elements of harmony (all of them non-canon), and his cutie mark is a Triforce despite having nothing at all to do with the Legend of Zelda.
Most OCs I’ve seen are either pretty good, or inoffensively mediocre, but it’s almost as if Ben Mare’s creator was going down a list of bad OC traits and making sure he checked off every box.
@LanceOmikron
If you’re being sarcastic, could you explain what makes Ben Mare a good character? Could you describe his character outside of “is friends with a bunch of canon ponies”?
@LanceOmikron
Yes. Who was corrupted by black magic when he tried to tap into magic’s full potential, then turned into pure dark magic. His daughter was the Crystal Princess, Cadence is her reincarnation, and Spike killed him just as he was about to cure himself, becoming good again.
