I’m assuming that most of the arguments OP made this in response to were on here. MLP is incredibly subjective, and most people don’t have the exact same tastes. So wouldn’t, like you said, “it’s just my opinion” be fine?
 
I usually just go with “just my opinion, you can believe whatever the hell you want as long as you give me the same respect when in debate.”

You know, this is only partially true. The further you lean into the realm of the artistic or entertaining, the more opinions blend into equality, for the simple lack of a practical standard.
 
That said, we can still have a lively discussion based on agreed-upon standards of the debaters.

I’ve used the “it’s just your opinion” argument before.
 
However, I challenge anyone to face the same challenge and not simply cop out like that.  
And it was the best challenge in the specific situation

The thing is though that you can’t use this as an excuse to not accept any opinion that’s not your own. I see far too many detailed and logical arguments get attacked because they have an unpopular opinion than I should.
 
I’ve also seen far too many people trying to start shit by making arguments that no one was actually discussing at the moment.

Well, that depends on what we’re discussing.
 
If it’s stuff like the matter of taste, or the provableness/unprovableness of God, etc. etc. this image does not apply, because the only thing that matters in those cases is opinion.
 
In other cases, this image works just fine.
